Hiya there, new to the forum, so hi to everyone.
I ave just bought a new V600 on o2, contract. Used the o2.co.uk shop. It seemed like a fair deal!
Anyway, one thing that is worrying me a little is the charges for GRPS... Basically I have downloaded a couple of my own ringtones that I made, sounded real good. Basically came to about 400kb... I have 500k per month, then its extra depending on how much download.
However, I spoke to someone at work, and apparently you can either use just wap, or GPRS. I know GPRS is real fast compared to WAP, but like I said, its expensive. Does anyone know how I can tell how I can tell whether im connecting through WAP Or GPRS.???
I'd really appreciate it if someoe could let me know.
Cheers
Paul

Hi i'm also on 02 contract,
I dont know how to connect using gprs, i have put both settings in my phone but dno how the gprs bit works.
the way i see it, if ure using dial up ure phone will say connecting and varifying etc for a longer period of time, but obviously i dont know what happens when u use gprs.
if u do want to make sure your using dial up just erase the gprs settings and just enter the dial up settings which you will need a phone number for.

Hiya,
Cheers for the reply. Yeah I thought of that myself... I know I have O2MMS, O2WAP(default), O2WAP GPRS, and O2 WAP GSM... I just wanna know that I aint dialling the GPRS. My GPRS icon appears at the top of the phone when I download stuff.
Are you on the O2 Online plan?? If so, how you finding it?
Cheers

I am on the same O2 online contract, if you want to use your free WAP minutes then connect using the O2 WAP GSM web session, this initiates a dialup, so your phone will be engaged whilst you are connected.
If you go to web sessions you can set which one you want to be your default connection by going in to the settings for that particular session.
You can see if your connected via WAP GSM as you will have the little phone symbol at the top, like when you are on a normal call, connecting via GPRS will not display this.
The beauty of GPRS is that you can be connected via GPRS and still make and receive calls.

GPRS on O2 cost around £2.38 per MB of data. for a 6Kb ringtone this is around 1p. I use my phone around 6 times a day to check my email with around 4 emails at 4KB each. Along with some ring tones this has never been above £3.00 for my monthly usage. Given the speed and the fact you have data counters on the phone, this is manageable and affordable for me. In my opinion GPRS is the bettter. Save your inclusive minutes for talking.

On most networks your wap duration will come off your inclusive minutes until they run out. Then you start getting charged. Due to the speed of GPRS and that you only pay for date recieved and transmitted it is the best option for most users. Wap you pay as long as you are connected so time is critical. Time is not a facter for GPRS.
