Hi,
As I know, the Motorola V70 is a GSM phone. You don't need to unlock the phone beside change the smart card. (or SIM card) Based on my knowledge, the unlock process only necessary when you carry a GSM phone from other countries and you want to use it in USA.
If you plan to use your phone in East/ West coast, then there is no problem to use this phone. (Cingular use 1900 frequency in East/ West Coast) If you plan to use it in Central such as Texas, then you might count each call as roaming because Cingular use 850 frequency in Texas. (You can check with Cingular Wireless resale store for detail.)
Hope this information will help!

I need to unlock a v70 as well, my BIL gave me one and I have a big bulky i50sx that I pulled my sim out off. when I put it in the v70 it says contact service provider. When I try to get the IMEI number it says Enter Subsidy Password. Any ideas?

I finally find out the Subcity code is the number that provide by service provider. (whatever the phone belong to not the service that you are using now.) For example, if you are T-mobile customer and you get the v70 from T-mobile, the only way you can do is call the customer service and ask for unlocking. You can tell them that you plan to use this phone in oversea. They will help you to unlock your phone. As I know, T-mobile will do unlock phone service when customer plan to use the phone in oversea. However, they only do it for tri-band phone. Since Motorola v70 is single band, I don't know they will do the unlock service or not. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to try. Hope this information will help.

If Cingular will not give you the unlock code, you are SOL. Really though, every six months, you will have to unlock the phone.....who do I know? I work there, hence my user name.
