I have an original mp3 music file (I'm a musician) that I would like to serve as my ring. That, to me, would be the absolute most cool thing in the world. I know my V400 can play MP3s, but is there a way to transfer my MP3 (shortened version, of course) from my computer or website onto the phone? I'm very web-savvy, but I dont know where to start.
Somebody please help me. I am so pumped about this possibility!!

Sure there is! I've had my V400 for a little over a month now and have played w/ custom mp3s like crazy...trust me, it's easy. Here's what to do:
1. Get a data cable to connect your phone to your computer (real cheap on ebay).
2. Get a copy of Mobile PhoneTools.
3. Edit the mp3 so it isn't at a quality of any more than 64
4. Transfer into the phone's music/ringtone folder using mobile phone tools.

Allison, you rock! I'm gonna give it a try as soon as i get that data cable.
If this works - yer my new best friend!
When you say 64, do you mean less than 64/kbs or total filesize of no more than 64k?

I mean less than 64 kb/s, sorry I wasn't clear. As for what to use to convert everything, I recommend Audacity - it's a free download from most download sites, and it allows you to edit your mp3 songs to the max. Lemme know if you have any more questions - I've spent waaaaay too much time in the past month making mp3 ringtones for my v400.

I just bought the data cable and MPT2.0 off of Ebay. Price was decent enough.
And I'll take a look at Audacity.
Is that all I'd need at this point to start rockin' my v400 with MP3s?
Here's a random question. How does your v400 do in sunlight? Can you see the screen at all? I just noticed this the other day.

As for your first question, yeah, that should be all you need to turn your phone into a jam session.
It's a bit hard to see the screen in direct sunlight, I'll have to agree with you. However, it's such a nice screen that the presentation in dimmer, less harsh settings well makes up for it.

Besides, once I get the ability to start playing around with mp3 ringtones, I probably wont be seeing sunlight again for awhile anyway.

Alison, how do they sound on the phone? Decent, or what?
I know its not going to be like listening to a mp3 player because of the downsampling, but it sounds good enough right?
I just purchased a cable and Mobile Phone Tools, i'm an anxious guy right now
Thanks

Well, it's not like you're listening to an mp3 out of your stereo speakers, but it is rather impressive, especially for a cell phone. My current ringtone is "Zombie Nation," which I ripped from a CD and using Audacity created the ringtone, and whenever it rings people turn heads sorta like, "Wait, that's a cell phone..." The best way to find out is to try it, though, so have fun!
btw - if you don't want to go through the process of creating an mp3 (although it is quite simple, getting the exact start/stop points can be tedious) and just want to listen to how it sounds, send me an e-mail at alison42083@yahoo.com and I'd be happy to e-mail you one of my mp3 ringtones. You'll just have to upload it yourself through mobile phone tools and the cable.
