I am looking to buy a phone for my sister in Boston (I live in Europe, hence my cluelessness on this matter ).
I'm wondering whether Verizon is any good for sending/receiving international texts. It seems to have good coverage in Boston, but I'd really like her to be able to text me.
Would anyone have any thoughts/experiences/recommendations?
thanks

My wife sends text messages from her cellphone to Philippines and Canada and receives replies back all the time, no problem. Regardless of the provider on the other side.. I don't know about other countries. We're in New York.

Unbelievable:
I just found out yesterday, that t-mobile (at least in the US) recently has started to charge 15 cents per international text message . They have even changed that for exisiting customers, who signed up without having to pay extra for international text messaging, for example, when they had t-zones with 300 text messages free or the other plan for 2.99, where you also had 300 text messages free (NO extra charge for international).
If you recently discovered this too, due to my information you have 14 days to cancel your t-mobile account (and take your number to another provider), even BEFORE your contract expires, WITHOUT penalty.
If anybody knows a provider in the U.S., that has a plan, which includes international text messaging, PLEASE let us know!
THANK YOU!

AT&T Wireless has a $4.99 package with 50 international text messages you can get on top of any of the $1.99/25 $4.99/100 $9.99/300 or $19.99/1000 packages. With AT&T incoming messages are always free.
Do you know how long the "cancel for free" period is going to go for with T-Mobile?
