But do not fear, If you get a USB data cable
(on ebay for 10 dollars, radioshack for 20 dollars, and Verizon stores for 40 dollars)
and download bitpim at http://www.bitpim.org/
you can send all the ringtones in mp3 format and midi format that you want.
Has anyone thought about this? How many times would you have to use it before it would pay for itself? A $40 ringtone is a bit much...
>o< I've been fiddling with my A670 for hours now, and the best I've gotten is receiving the pix message, and opening it up to find... a big red X saying "corrupted". It's pretty frustrating. The other times, my phone just tells me "Message Receipt Failed." I received a .mid file (-_- paid for from a website) maybe a halfyear ago, so logically, the email-to-self-as-attachment metod should work too but... It's not working for me!
Can anyone help me with this?
I don't think it's the file's fault: size is 52k, I have it in 3 formats (mp3, wav, mid).

Never mind. After MANY more hours of searching, I have found an EXCELLENT way to get ringtones!
Just download a FREE little program at RingtoneChopShop.com (despite its weird name, it's a good program). And then follow these directions (if you have a A670 like me):
"I found out with my Samsung A670 phone that getting a ringtone is a little bit more complicated then what has been explained above....
you need to send the audio to your E-mail address and then save the attached audio to your computer..
then log on to vzwpix.com and upload that audio...
then you can send a pix message you your phone with the audio in it and it should play when you receive it..
then, in options on your phone hit save sound...
then just go into your ringtone setting and it should be there."
Otherwise, I think it's more straightforward for other phones, with that program.

Cheaper than using sony music box (2.99 or more per real song)... You can send 2 long songs (30-45 seconds) or several shorter ones in a single email... so that's less than 18 cents per song... don't think it's that much of a problem unless your living in the street...

I'm not sure if your phone has that ability, try the following (except not with mp3s, i believe your phone probably only has midi, if anything at all...
1. Open up any .mp3 file in a free music editor program like Audacity (or soundforge ) and clip
out part of the file that you wish to make into a ringtone, keeping it at
about 30 seconds.
2. For best sound keep the .mp3 at 24 bit sample rate, 44khz frequency and
stereo, no need to change any of these attributes.
3. Change the encoder bit rate down to between 48 and 64, then resave the
.mp3 making sure that it is not bigger than 300kb. Anything encoded under
48 bit rate will sound bad and anything over 64 is a waste and the file size
becomes to big.
4. Find your new 30 second .mp3 on your hard drive, make sure you have
file extensions turned on in windows (explorer/tools/folder options) and
then right click the file and change the extension from .mp3 to .mid
5. Open up your email and attach the .mid file, make sure that you have
nothing in the subject or body of the email. Email the file to your phone
at yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com .If you dont subscribe to a call package
from verizon each time you send or recieve something via vwzpix.com you
will be charged 25 cents, still way cheaper than buying ringtones.
6. After you email the .mid file to your phone it may take a couple of minutes
before your phone announces that you have a pix message. Open up your
pix message, play or preview your new ringtone if you want and then just
just save sound. There is no need to rename it or change file extension.
7. Sometimes you will get a message along the lines of "messege cant be
recieved, file is a 100000 bytes", just click view message anyway and
the file will be there.
Will this work with a Motorola V276?

Starwarsfan, we have been trying the walmart method, and we were successful until it came to saving the ringtone to the phone. It says this;
"File Size must be under 30Kbyte"
Do you know how we can make the files smaller?
Thank you,

I was just wondering if anyone has done this with a Motorola V276 and had it work, because I can't seem to get ringtones to my phone, no matter what I do

I've been using the VZWPIX account method of sending MIDI files to my phone. Some MIDIs work, while others don't, and I checked the files...however there appears to be nothing wrong with them. It seems to be a roulette, and I've tried sending them with different e-mail addresses(all of which are free)...but still no luck. I don't get any error messages, just silence when the MIDIs supposed to be playing... is it possible that due to lack of signal it's possible for the MIDI to not load properly?

To Starwarsfan or anyone who would know:
I just got a new vx8100. I haven't tried the cable method yet or sending myself, but I was wondering if using a mini SD card, I could upload MP3s on to the phone and use them as ring tones.
If that doesn't work I'll get the damn cable.

Verizon Figured out that people would try that so they made it impossible to set a ringtone in from the miniSD card. Sucks I know. but you can get the cable, drivers, and a program called BitPim and send ringtones to your phone.
