I just got a new vx8100. I haven't tried the cable method yet or sending myself, but I was wondering if using a mini SD card, I could upload MP3s on to the phone and use them as ring tones.
If that doesn't work I'll get the damn cable. |
Verizon Figured out that people would try that so they made it impossible to set a ringtone in from the miniSD card. Sucks I know. but you can get the cable, drivers, and a program called BitPim and send ringtones to your phone.

I just got a new RAZR and I edited down a 30 second clip of an mp3 to use for a ringtone, emailed it to the phone, and saved it. Now, when it plays in the e-mail is sounds great, but when I save it and use it as a ringtone its so quiet you can't even hear it. Anyone know how to fix this?

The reason the razr will not save the sound very well is because verizon caught on to this method, and is trying to disable it in their new phones. This is also the same for the vx8100. Getting a data cable at radioshack for the vx8100 and downloading bitpim at http://bitpim.org will allow you to send songs to your phone. As for the Razr, getting MobilePhone Tools somewhere on the internet, and drivers at http://driverguide.com , and a mini-usb cable (digital camera cable) will allow the razr to get songs. Verizon has gotten greedy over the years, and data cables are seeming to become the only way to send ringtones to the phone.

Verizon did this on purpose so you are forced to use their ringtone services.
Luckily, if you get a data cable on ebay, or at radioshack, and bitpim (software), then you can send ringtones from your computer. eBay sells for 10 bucks. Make sure that the cable comes with drivers.

Hi, I purchased Mobile PhoneTools and USB cable for my Motorola V276 in order to upload ringtones from my PC. Verizon has disabled the media option in MPT, and I am only able to sync. my contacts and calendar!!

A posting on another forum taught me how to load numerous VX8100 ringtones using the miniSD card. I have also heard that MP3's can be used as ringtones without conversion but I haven't done that... all mine are MIDI's. You will need a miniSD card and a card reader available on your PC.
Once you have formatted your miniSD card in your phone (which puts needed directories on the SD), access the SD card and create a new directory named "Ringtones" (no quotes). Load your ringtones in this directory and they will be available on your VX8100.
Access your new ringtones this way: On your VX8100 ---
OK(Menu) - left, left - 1. Get Tunes & Tones - 2. My Ringtones. Your new ringtones will be there with Gold Icons rather than the Green Icons used for the stock (boring) ringtones.
I found this the easy way rather than the rather involved BitPim procedure.
