First of all I'll give you a run down of BitPim. BitPim is a program used to communicate from the computer to the phone and can read and write to the phone and from the computer, including syncrinization of contacts, ringtones, and wallpapers.
Make sure you are using the latest version of BitPim and the drivers are installed.
With the lastest Version your phone is autodetected, and if it is not detected, there is a phone wizard that you can use to select your phone. next you click the section you want to use, (ie. ringtones, wallpapers,) and you should be able to figure it out from there. If not post more questions.
Hope this helps,

A posting on another forum taught me how to load numerous VX8100 ringtones using the miniSD card. I have also heard that MP3's can be used as ringtones without conversion but I haven't done that... all mine are MIDI's. You will need a miniSD card and a card reader available on your PC.
Once you have formatted your miniSD card in your phone (which puts needed directories on the SD), access the SD card and create a new directory named "Ringtones" (no quotes). Load your ringtones in this directory and they will be available on your VX8100.
Access your new ringtones this way: On your VX8100 ---
OK(Menu) - left, left - 1. Get Tunes & Tones - 2. My Ringtones. Your new ringtones will be there with Gold Icons rather than the Green Icons used for the stock (boring) ringtones.
I found this the easy way rather than the rather involved BitPim procedure.

how do i make the new directory "ringtones" on my vx8100

I got my ringtones to work with the data cable and bitpim, but i cant seem to get the mp3s to work. I dont know how and where to load the mp3s. bitpim has a playlist, but i cant create one. and i cant listen to the ringtones as mp3s.
i dont have a miniSD , but i didnt think i needed it if i only had the data cable and bitpim.
how can i get mp3s uploaded on to my phone (LG VX8100) without the minisd?
thanks alot for your help starwarsfan!
