What program can I use to make real ringtones for the LG Env? I had cingular before and use mp3 to mp3 to make 15 seconds to 30 seconds ringtones and put on the blackberry, but LG Env or verizon does not support this format. What format does LG env read for ringtones?

Is verizon's practice of altering phone devices that WE OWN so that they are crippled from any functionality (other than simply making calls) without paying for their astronomical get it now shit even legal?!?!? Surely it's not. They don't disclose anything about that in ANY of their legal notices, terms & conditions, nothing, because I just spent the last 3 hours dilligently searching for it! I USED to be able to email myself a ringtone that I had proudly made (and verizon didn't even offer w/ get it now at the time, and they still dont now) but sometime recently they freakin crippled that! Using a microSD card doesn't work, data cables don't work (they won't even let you back up your contacts!), and their get it now is a complete rip off! why would I be dumb enough to pay $2.99 for a ringtone (yes kids the price is that much for ONE ringtone!) when it's only 10% of an entire song when I can pay a third that off amazon, itunes, whereever and get the entire effing thing?! And whats even worse is that they have lowered the volume of their ringtones, so even with my phone (enV) on its LOUDEST volume, when I'm previewing a tone it is barely even audible.
This is absolutely ridiculous! I'm not one to stand idly by and allow myself and millions of others be ripped off by their greed! There has GOT to be something we can do to take a stand against this BS! Ideas? ANybody? I know you're pissed too.

A friend of mine sent a message to my picture inbox containing a song/ringtone/whatever you want to call it. I have a VX6000. In my picture inbox, I "saved sound" and i think it saved successfully but i dont know where it was sent in my phone so I can make it a ringtone.
does anyone know what file/area it was put under?

When you save the sound, it will offer you to save as ringtone, or as sound. When you save it as a sound it will go to your my sounds folder. If you deleted the message, re-send the sound to yourself and save as a ringtone.

Thats what I do, I cut the mp3 and save it on my micro SD chip under my_sounds. I then go under my sounds and send it to myself. When I recieve the pic message I hit the options key and Save Sound. That was on the krzr that I had.
- now i have a new problem. Last week I got the Decoy. It does the same thing, no problems there, but it changes the file format from mp3 to QCELP? and under my_sounds it sounds just fine. but when I save as a ringtone, all of a sudden the ringtone become really loud, and really distorted. It changes the file format from mp3 to QCELP. any help?

It works! Hooray! I decided if I can't beat em, join em. I hate lame ringtones people have. I have just had my original ring forever but decided if I could make my own and not pay 4+ bucks for a tone that sounds lame then maybe I would. I refuse to pay more for a ringtone than an entire song mp3. How lame is that?
I read a few sites on how to and then did it and the first time I did it, it worked. I have a Verizon phone (samsung 540) and the instructions I read on how to do it were for a different phone so this may be a universal answer on how to.
I took a song I like. Edited it to the 20 seconds I like. Saved it as a wav and then sent it to my cellphone.
When I got my message it said I had a photo. I opened it and heard my tune. Then I chose the option to save it as a ringtone. Then I associated the tone with my friend Ray. Now, when Ray calls, I hear the Twilight Zone.
Easy. Kinda cool. New toy. :o) WOOT!
I tried to post the site where I did the edit (although I can just use Nero I used a free ringtone edit site first) but I am a new user on this forum and cannot post URLs yet.
If you want to ask any questions, feel free to ask me and I'll share. I am going to find my microcard adapter and then just DL them onto it directly. How easy can that be! The same person that explained how to do it said they also did it that way. Talk about a no brainer. Just have to find the damned adapter that I was sure I didn't need. LOL

I don't know if it is legal or not, but the more people who complain about it, the more likely something will be done. I have been hounding them for weeks on this. Here's the e-mail address of a woman I have been corresponding with about these practices:
wfmweirt "at" HQ "dot" VerizonWireless "dot" com
(fix the "at" and the "dot"s)
Also, I am filing a complaint with both the FCC and the California Public Utilities Commission, and I urge others to do the same. We OWN these phones, which means we own all of the features and should be able to use them freely.

Actually, you can create your own ring tones from digital music you already have and not pay anyone a dime. Verizon just wants to make you think the only way to do it is to pay them to do it for you. All you need is a micro SanDisk, which fits into both your phone and a computer. You can move any great sounding mp3 edited down to about 20 seconds (all the time you need for a ringtone) and then text it to youself. - To do it, Save the song onto the SanDisk then drag and drop the song to that drives folder labled 'My Sounds' then put the disk back in the phone, go to 'my sounds in the phones menu and press send. Now you can text the ringtone to your own number. When you open the text the menu will display the option for saving the sound to 'My Ringtones'. That's it. You will now have a custom ringtone in your phone without paying a dime. Also You most likely as be able to go to the 'Contacts' menu - select 'View' and see what ringtone is playing for each person. It will read 'Default' until you change the ringtone for that particular person but in theory, everyone you know can make your phone play a different ringtone. -

I haven't had a chance to read over the forum responses since there are so many, but there is a web site called Ventones that will allow you to create your own ringtones and send them to your phone. It used to work great, but I have not used it in a while. Do a search for ventones. I tried to post a link but the server would not allow it.
