Starwarsfan, you really seem to know your shit, so i ask you for help. i followed your directions about the walmart file and such, changed it to a .mid file, sent it to my phone(LG VX8100) and it opened and started to play. only problem is when i went to options and saved it ...it got saved into "my sounds" and i have no way of moving items from "my sounds" to "my ringtones" nore do i have the option of picking the location i want to save the file to. any help would be nice.
i'm not as experienced. but what i would do is take the sound. then send it to yourself. that's what i do to save my sounds as ringtones.

******** i made an account just to post my damn solution after 4 hours of work trying to get 1 damn Godfather ringtone to work on my verizon phone .. dont worry bout the model.. anyway after hours of conversions, renamings, resizings, text messaging, sky rocketing data usage, and total meltdown.. i finally got my damn tone workin .. if nothing else on this damn thread works for u, then try this . ..first open ur song in Windows Sound Record, then go to File, Properties, and go to Convert, do the 8bit crap and save the file . Now download Audicity (or some stupid crap like that) ur file is gonna have to be a .wav, if its not, then google media-convert .. easy, quick, and doesnt BS u. anyways after u finally have a .wav file, open up audicity, open ur file in it, then press ctrl+P to open up preferences, go to File Format, change ur Uncompressed Export Format to 8bit microsoft WAV and click ok. now ur gonna have to reduce ur song to NO MORE than 20 seconds long (yes i know, ur gonna have to cut off 10 seconds, sigh) and than go to File --> Export Selection as WAV ... tada >.> if ur file is 156kb , ur golden.. log into ur email account and email that bitch .. -.- its 2:47am here, and im sitting at my computer wondering if all this work was worth a 20 second ringtone with reduced quality...meh >.> good night
