I just found this out almost a month after calling samsung trouble shooting and what not...I feel like I should of known this already but since I'm a newbie to this I guess this is a pitfall for me big time.. or I'm just an idiot.. anyway, I just found out the other day when I went to a T Mobile store and than a few other places and talked with people and they all said that the serial data cable only DOEs NOT WORK with PC's!!! I guess it's only going to work if you own a MAC or something.. sucks!! I just ordered my USB cable so I hope this will resolve this crazy problem I was having..

Im using a serial data cable that came with my V200 and im using it for my E710 since the day i bought it with my PC (Windows XP SP1) & Laptop (Windows LH). Don't know if im trippin but it seems to work fine . Its easier to change things in your phone with a serial cable maybe they where scared youd be unlocking your phone for free.

Laptops might work but NO DeskTops is what I've been told from several different people. You can just use your Irda and that'll work with the Laptop but I haven't been able to get this to work at all with my Win XP Desktop. Yeah, I don't know what it has to do with settings on the phone itself that sounds like a whole nother ball game. I have heard something about unlocking phones and what not but I just don't know what it has to do with being able to connect with you PC?

Dude,
I use my serial cable with my desktop PC and it works flawlessly. Are you talking about only that specific cable for your phone? It sounded as though you were referring to all Samsung serial cables not working with PC's, and that is not true. Good luck on getting something to work.

The Serial cable fits in every computer with a Serial COM port which almost all the pc's have.
- With a Serial cable you can flash, crack, hack, send/receive images & ringtones
- With USB cable sometimes works the same but can't always do it all.
- With Irda you can only send/receive images & ringones
Click this link to view an image of ports 1 through 5. The numbers in the descriptions below correspond to the numbers in the picture.
1. PS/2 keyboard: Newer computers from vendors such as Dell, Gateway, and Compaq color the keyboard port purple.
2. PS/2 mouse: Newer computers from vendors such as Dell, Gateway, and Compaq color the mouse port green.
3. USB: Most PCs come with two USB ports. USB has the advantage of higher throughput speeds and the ability to daisy-chain up to 127 devices using the entire USB bus. Just about any peripheral device you can think of, from webcams to scanners, uses this port. Read this story if you'd like to learn more about USB.
4. Parallel port: This port was once commonly used for connecting printers, scanners, and Zip drives to a PC.
5. Serial port: This is more of a legacy port. It's used to connect a mouse, older modems, early PDAs, and digital cameras. This port is slowly being phased out because it offers really slow data-transfer rates.

I'm using the serial port 5. with my Serial Port Data Cable NON OEM that I bought from Ebay. I'm using the E715 samsung / Win XP Port COM3 is the default. I'm not sure if this will work with the later model samsung phones but I've tried everything with my E715 and it just wont work. I'm just quoting what several different people have told me about my NEW E715 samsung phone and the Serial Data Cable. " It only works with USB Cables. " that's the bottom line... nuff said .. If anyone can tell me otherwise or explain in great detail as to how I can connect my E715 samsung / Serial Data Cable / Easy GPRS please let me know.. I will be extremly shocked to know how!!!!

of course it's for the E715 that's what it says @ ebay and that's why I bought it..
The phone I owned before this one was an old analog phone from sanyo Sprint that was really skinny that I bought around 2 or 3 years back.

I recently purchased the serial cable for the e715 samsung phone, but it did not come with any software. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in obtaining the wares for it?
