Hello, I have to replace my current cellphone (an old ericsson t28z), and would like suggestions based on my featureset below in decreasing order of importance:
-- calling card programmability: the t28 and the t39 allow you to "program" a calling card into the phone. Then, to call outside the cellphone plan's calling area you press a key to have the phone automatically call a calling card's 800 number, send the calling card pin, and then the dialed number. All automatically so it sure saves on punching in 20+ digit numbers each time. This is a feature I sorely miss on all recent phones.
-- I'm in North America, so 1900 & 850 would be nice.
-- loudspeaker
-- some sort of sync capability (wired or wireless) to save phone numbers to/from the SIM card from/to an external computer or device.
I'm not interested in color displays, cameras, etc, etc.
Thank you

2384.2 in reply to 2384.1
To reply to my own post, thus far what I've found is that among the following manufacturers: ericsson, lg, motorola, panasonic, nokia, samsung, ericsson/sony-ericsson phones are the only ones that offer an useable programmable calling card feature. T3xx, T6xx, etc.
The Motorola T720 has something like this, but its implementation seems near-unuseable: you need modify each phone-book entry you even *may* want to dial via a calling card, with calling card info!
I also assume any phone with an intelligent-enough OS could be custom-programmed to do this, too. Certainly with J2ME, perhaps with Brew, Symbian, etc.

Hi,
I am thinking of switching to cingular and wanted the same feature. As far as I know the Sony-ericsson T616, & T610 have it, was wondering if any other phones have the same feature.
Thank you

Hi,
If your looking for a good calling card provider then I've found the Cheapest International Phone Card Rates!!!!!
I'm a UK citizen living in the US and I call friends and family a couple of times a week and so the cost racks up quite a bit! I had tried a few phone cards before but had been disapointed with the quality. But a friend put me onto this new site called http://www.CheaperChat.com which has unbelievable low rates. So I purchased a $20 WorldWide prepaid phone card from this site and it is excellent! I call the UK at only 1.7c/min, and the quality of the connection is excellent!!! So I just had to let you all know as I have had trouble with phone cards in the past but this one is a really cheap reliable way to call home. This site also has some excellent rates to just about every country in the world!!! http://www.CheaperChat.com

In your search, did anyone of you find the feature in 6230. I returned V551 since it did not have the calling card feature just to realize that the new 6230 I got does not have it either.
I figured that you could enter the calling card information against each number that you could dial with calling card... but its stupid.
Any tips on programming the feature?

Why not just program the calling card and pin numbers into the speed dial directory?

No it doesn't work. It would be easy to speed dial the calling card number but we would still have to manually enter the international number we are trying to reach. So you either have to remember the numbers you call to or go back into the phone book everytime you are dialing one.
I thought of using the conference call feature for this but it puts the first call on hold. So the dialed number doesn't really reach the calling card service provider.

I have relatives overseas and I call them often. So far I do not have any problems yet with this site- cheapcallcredits - I get my PIN instantly and start making calls for a very low rate.
