Just bought the Nokia Data cable for my 6610 for a mere 90 euro!! wasn't expecting that cost and want to return it. Is it cheaper and just as good to go for an infrared adapter? i'm not overly concerned with speed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

90 € is very expensive... here in germany the cable comes about 70 €...

But buy Infrared... it's much better, speed is enough, you won't get the difference really... I got an Infrared-Adapter @ eBay for 15€ - and I also can use it with other Phones with Infrared and I don't need to buy cables or else for them.

Personally I saw the Nokia data cable price and choosen the infrared adapter icon_smile.gif I'm very satisfied, you can use this whith the phone you want whithout problems, the only "plus" you have with data cable is the stability of the connection...i mean if you use your mobile as a modem, with the irda adapter you have to keep your phone near and still to the computer, so maybe this can be unconfortable.

I agree. I have yet resolved the problem with my IrDA transfer. I kept getting the error message "The transfer failed. An error occurred while Wireless Link was connecting to the other device".

With my data cable, I have done numerous transfer since.... no problem at all... icon_smile.gif

i'm using an irda port and i never had that problem (only at the beggining but after i set the properties right it's perfectly stable).. i even used it as a modem once and it was stable... i think the irda is mych better that the cable and easier to use

You probably won't see a significant difference in speed, however the data cable will be more reliable.

i have an IrDa and it is pretty good and i have had no truble what-so-ever, but as it has been said it is a bit unstable and anoying when the cat plays with the cord! after that theres a cat with a sore butt and a half transfered file icon_twisted.gif . the up side to the data cable is that if there is an upgrade for your phone you will be able to upgrade it with the data cable but this is not possible with IrDa

another upside to the data cable is that they can be used to unlock your phone whereas it can't be done with iRda
