This may sound like a dumb question, but I have read all of the posts on how to unlock the V205 to get the zoom and more ringtones on the phone, but why would T-Mobile have locked the phone in the first place? Why is the SIM lock there? Also, are there any after effects on the phone after the V200 software has been installed? Thanks

The reason it is locked so that the normal, ignorant cell phone user cannot use the v205 on cingular, at&t, and etc.

You can get it unlocked so it will be used on all networks. The sim lock is the same I belive.

I heard that the sms is limited to 70 spaces icon_twisted.gif

After flashing to v200 you get:
PROS (in my opinion)
digital zoom
more contrast options on both main and front LCD screen
(optional) time and service logo off
unlocked phone so you can switch to another gsm service provider

CONS and NEUTRALS

organizer is spelt organiser (pet peeve of mine)
shortcut keys are all different (no more shortcut to phonebook tried to change it wouldn't let me)
reception bar meter has like 6-7 bars now
get easygprs UK logo for beginning powerup
able to download photos from your phone to pc
connect call visual is totally different
always on roaming but does not effect billing (trust me calling in Tmobile said i was fine)
tzone does not work

tzone works, call tmobile and they'll reset your tzone settings so you can go online. that's what i did, took longer to reach tech support than to reset my tzone settings.

I flashed my 205 to the 200 firmware and this is how u get your tzones back working:

If you subscribe to T-Zone you need to do the following:

T-Mobile GPRS Setting
1. Go to Menu=>Funbox=>WAP Browser=>Settings
2. Edit Profile 1 with the following Info:

Profile Name : Whatever you want to name it.
Homepage URL : http://wap.myvoicestream.com
Security : Non-secured
IP Address : 216.155.165.50
Bearer : GPRS
Username : (leave it blank)
Password : (leave it blank)
APN : wap.voicestream.com

After this is set up, you should be able to get on to t-zone by just pressing the t-zone button on your keypad

T-Mobile MMS Setting

Go to Menu=>Picture Messages=>MMS Profile

Edit Profile 1 with the following Info:

Profile Name: Whatever you want to name it.
Connection URL: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Security: Non-secured
IP Address: 216.155.165.050
Username: (leave it blank)
Password: (leave it blank)
APN: wap.voicestream.com

i got this off another board and it works just fine.
BTW i am a tmobile subscriber in case you were wondering.

Are all the logos - ringtones included in the firmware?
because in theory your could delete (or i rather say. replace) all (i think) lame ringtones and put all your favorites in.

I can only add 6 or 7 ringtones now and 6 own backgrounds..
i would be more pleased if this was times three icon_smile.gif
