I have created an MP3 and put it onto the phone via a bluetooth adapter. I can see the file and play it in multimedia, but it does not appear in phonebook when selecting a ringtone for a contact. Can anyone explain why this is happening ?

Thanks

Mike

have you tried getting the ringtone up in the player, then menu button and then assign to category? i know this wont assign to individual number but its better than nothing...con you can make a new category and put the person u want to give the ringtone to in it

I rang Motorola and they said that you cannot import and use MP3's as a ringtone on a V600. They say you can import and listen to them, but you can only have 3 MP3 ringtones and they are already there (Courtesy of Motorola) and you cannot delete them (They're locked) so all available MP3 ringtone slots are filled.

Sounds crap to me, is this true ? If so, why does their site allow you to purchase MP3 (And here's the clue) ringtones !!!

Hmm, I'm on o2. It says on the spec that I read that you can have up to 3 MP3 ringtones. It does have 3 preinstalled but they have a lock symbol next to them meaning that they cant be deleted to create a ringtone space. I can get them on no trouble, just cant select them as a ringtone.

i really dont know then...i know it says 3 mp3 tones but i think thats just saying what it comes with.... you can have as many as you can fit in the memory...

so...you go to phonebook, click on a contact, select edit, scroll down and select ringer ID, and its not in the list? mine appear right at the bottom, after all the built in ones, have you scrolled the whole way down? sorry if that sounds patronising!

Ha, no it's not patronising and I appreciate your help.
When I do that it brings up the list, but at the bottom are the two midi/polys that I downloaded, but not the mp3. When I go to multimedia and sounds, it's there and I can play it. Do you have three preinstalled MP3's and are they locked and cannot be deleted?

One thing, I transferred the file via blue tooth rather than downloading it from a web page. I'm not sure why there should be a difference, but I'll try it. Do you have to set up a wap page or will a normal one do?

i seem to have quite a few that cant be deleted.....what are yours called?

just a thought what settings are your mp3s... ie bitrate, file size, length, and what did you encode them with? make sure you are encoding them with the LAME engine...

regards downloading, i just put the file on a normal webpage, and just went into the webaccess menu and went to the go to url bit and just typed the adress of the file directly....then it prompts you (eventually ) if you want to download it.

i have had a few problems with it, namely hanging halfway through, and sometimes when u download stuff it doesnt give you the option to store it it just says download complete... file doesnt show up anywhere on the phone which is annoying after downloading 250 kb...maybe thats sort of the problem your having...i have found if you try saving pics in another format (.bmp instead of jpg for example) that sometimes works... otherwise i change the bitrate of the mp3 and it seems ok...usually to 96kbps

Thanks Simian, I'll try that this morning. I do use Lame and I've a feeling that it will work via web download but not file transfer. Strange, and doesnt make sense but I've a strong feeling that it will work. I'll let you know later if it does.

Thanks

Mike
