After having issues with MP3 ringtones and the V600, and being told by Motorola that you can only play imported ones and not select them as a ringtone, I have been experimenting with it to find the truth. The truth is that you can use imported MP3 and select them as ringtones but only via a certain method. To clear this up for everyone, here are my findings:
You cannot transfer an MP3 file via bluetooth and use it as a ringtone. It will transfer and you play it till your hearts content, but you will not be able to select it as a ringtone.
You can upload the said MP3 to a web site via FTP and go to this web page using the WAP browser and download it. This method WILL allow you to select the MP3 as a ringtone.
I hope this clears things up for everyone.
Thanks
Mike

something is wrong with your phone/pc/software. I can move songs over via bluetooth and set them as ringtones. I just did it 5 minutes ago with a Petey Pablo song.

I can do it with Midi's fine, but not with MP3's. This was confirmed by Motorola when I rang them. They said they will only play and can't be used as ringtones.

NEVER put to much into anything that motorola tells you... they will also tell you that they do not manufacture any phones in china, among other things...
yes you can... but you have to use another app to delete these files, MyToneDB.db and/or TempToneDB.db... reboot the phone and every will be golden... defeets the piont of bluetooth though

OK, I'm going to go way out of my way and show you that you are wrong, and I am right. I'm not being malicious, I just hate when I tell people 'It's working, I'm looking right at it' and they say 'no it's not' lol.
I'll be back in a while, with a VIDEO of everything working the way I say it does.

Look forward to it. I'm not saying your wrong at all, I'm just documenting my findings. I'm using a D-Link blue tooth adapater. I can see my phone and transfer pictures, midis and MP3's either way between my PC and Phone. The picutres are ok, the midis can be played and selected as ringtones but the MP3's can only be played and did not appear in the list when selecting a ringtone from a phone entry.
If I upload the same MP3 to a website, I can point my wap browser to the site and download it. I could then select it as an MP3.
Maybe it's an issue with the D-Link, I'm not sure but it certainly didn't work for me.

And here it is. 3MB. From creation, to transfer via bluetooth, to testing. Enjoy!
Yeah I know my desktop is cluttered. I've been busy.
Ok well, my vid shows selecting the mp3 as a generic ringtone. I didn't know you were having trouble selecting an mp3 from a specific phonebook entry. SO, I went ahead and made another video (268KB) of choosing the mp3 straight from the phonebook.
I have the Linksys BT adapter by the way. I can't see how it would make a difference though.

Just bought a V600, and tried to download the following file onto it...
http://www.ukce.co.uk/phone/ulysses.mp3
But when I pointed the browser there, it said "404 : File not found"
I need this ringtone on my phone, or I'll die. Or something equally dramatic...

Have recently bought bluetooth adapter from Scan (their own badged thing about £10).
Used the supplied software.
Can D/L MP3's and use as ringtone no problem.
