I just aquired my Nokia 6230 , downloaded and installed the cable driver (for my DKU-2 cable) and installed PC Suite for Windows XP (thats the OS i'm using) .
After doing that, I cannot use my internal modem anymore to connect to my ISP (Internet service provider) . The modem has no dial tone and will give out an error message saying the same thing. I tried unstalling and re-installing my modem, but this did'nt help.
I suspect that the PC suite changed my 'default modem" from my PCI modem to the handphone (as modem) . What has gone wrong????? Please help!!!! I've been searching the internet for a solution to my problem in the past days.... please, please, please help me as i cant afford to re-format my whole drive.... btw, i'm using an old system (Pentium 3) running on Windows XP and a dial-up connection to my ISP
Will be most grateful

Normally PC Suite doesn't change the modem.
I could imagine two thinks
a) you've got now a COM-port used twice... one by your modem and one by the cable, which causes trouble
b) you haven't got configured the PC Suite Connection Manager correctly and he doesn't "talks" to the cable, but to the modem.

Same problem here. Can happen if both modems share same port.
Firstly goto Connection manager, open the properties of the dial-up connection u r using and make sure that the internal modem is selected.
Then goto Device Manager and disable "Nokia 6230 Cable modem" from under modems.
Then reboot the pc and check again.

Most grateful for your help and suggestions guys... i will be trying all those this coming weekeend... (I work on weekdays and only have the weekends to attend to my personal stuff)...
If I may, without pushing anyone too far....,
Bjoern,
I'm not too IT savvy and computer literate, you will have to forgive me for that... but when you say "COM-port being used twice... by the modem and the cable", does that include the USB port?... the phone cable connects to the pc via a USB... apart from that, though I really dont know much of whats happening inside... are'nt the COM and USB ports two different things?... again please pardon my shallow knowledge of computers...
icefusion and abhista,
noted your suggestions and will try them as well... this coming weekend...
thanks a lot guys

COM-Port and USB-Port are two different things, but you can have virtual COM-Ports.
The chances ain't high they assigned the same port twice, but it could be.
Does this only happens when the phone is connected or also when the phone isn't connected?
Remote diagnosis ain't my area of expertise If I sit in front of a computer, I could solve 90% of the problems.

This seems to be a general issue with the Nokia PC Suite. I came across the same problem when installing the DKU-2 driver for my Nokia 9300.
The solution I found is to manually change the Nokia USB modem COM port.
I had to use the Advanced Port Settings on the Advanced tab of Modem Properties to reassign the Nokia USB modem to another, unused port. On this tab you can select a different COM port with which the Nokia USB modem will subsequently be associated.
Now I can use both the other device (a PCcard modem) and the Nokia device at the same time.
