i noticed it too with my phone, there are descrepancies with the memory... =(
but when it comes with T9, it is always ""off", when i turn it "ON" and then go to idle mode and then go back again to SMS the T9 is "off" again, so i guess there's no problem with that... my question is when i change the settings of my text message like for example i set it to small italic font, i want to retain it even if i go to idle mode and back to SMS again, how do i do this?

SAMSUNG SUCKS !!! for the following reasons:
1)fake useless memory - phone has 1.2mb memory but only 5-7 games can be downloaded(that too less than 100kb).this may be due to system files that the phone makes (for running the game) whenever a java midlet is added.
2)single line scroll sucks.
3)cannot retain settings like font change and t9.
4)polyphonic of size not more than 32kb.
5)stupid DRM error when sending mms.
6)last but not the least , no game downloading through data cable.
life sucks
when u get a samsung phone.

Yet this guy's life sucks enough to have joined a SAMSUNG FORUM?!?
FYI - Odd how those games got on my phone through cable if it isn't possible, or maybe I was just dreaming about that walkthrough that taught me how to do it....
Ok, you're cool... as for the question at hand, it is the file system. This is very similar to any mobile device. Things such as the cybiko, if any of you remember that thing, had the same issue. It is the way in which it stores memory that is tends to "inflate" the size it beleives the file to be. As long as you didn't run out of memory, don't sweat it.

Hi,
For ring tones....1-16kb takes 16kb space....and 17-32kb takes 32 kb space......so put larger tones near limits to avoid exessive loss of space....no use putting 1 or 2 kb tone...unless you really like it!!
I fully agree, it has too much memory to worry about these things too much!!

1. The memory is not fake the menu structure is. The numbers are limited to 9.
2. Its not a computer.
3. Fonts!? again Its not a computer.
4. That limit can be patched away http://engrsoft.nm.ru/Patches/ .
5. Same as 4
6. With your phone you can upload java games to your phone using the Uploader. Google it or search for it on this forum.
I agree your samsung sucks but not mine im happy the way it is. At least i can make calls with it.

i m talking about java memory. u " wise " guy.
probably GOD gave u the iternal power to use non java memory to store java games. people dont want static things ( one time fun ). they want something dynamic something interactive ( games ).they want adrenaline rush .

how do these patches work? how can i use them? can someone pls explain. also - does this sort of inefficient memory storage happen with all samsungs? i am interested in buying a d410 or e800 but i am very dissapointed with my x100. it is good but still dissapointed. i am leaning towards a moto v600. anyways does this sort of memory storage happen with other mobile phone brands like nokia and motorola and se?
also about the patches - is there a patch for my x100 firmware?
