Howdy,
Having just upgraded from a 3310 to a 6100, I have noticed that all my "nokia" messages are destroyed
The type of message I mean are like flashing sms messages or say footprints that move down untill you get text at the end of the message, I'm sure nokia users know what I mean
It seems that the new colour screens are bigger, thus messsing these messages up.
I want to know, is their a way to get these messages to flash/display properly? I am also thinking of some kind of converter that I could use for these messages, I'm thinking of software, that I could use to convert the messages to the new screen format and then re-upload back to my phone via cable.
Knowing my luck, this can't be done, but worth a shot!
Cheers,

well this might help a bit for messages like the footsteps u said... just set the font to be small fonts... however it will show 2 pages of message at once... at least it's not as messed up as if u use large fonts... i dun think blinking messages can be displayed on ur phone...

ok, that what you mean with the footprints are ascii-messages. And ascii-messages worked only on Nokia-Phones with low resolution like the 3310/3330/3210 and others which are in the low-budget category. Maybe at the 3510i they will work proper. My old 6210 couldn't display those messages right, too.
For me personaly the messages are old fashioned
There is no such converter which you're thinkin of.

MMMM, I tried smaller fonts, but it looked even worst!
I just feel a bond to these messages, since some of them I've had since my 5110 from like 4 years ago!, I can't get over since I "upgraded" that these messages aren't supported by my phone, you'd think nokia knows about these messages and would at least let them display properly, or say have a font setting "old skool",
Anyways,

That has not really something to do with Nokia itself...
These messages were designed for low-resolution (and so low-budget) phones like the 3310/3330/3210...
Some clever people find out how to set an blinking sms or how to code the ascii-pictures on these phones (which were common).

BUT, that is my point, Nokia should make their NEW phones Backwards compatable. If I want lo-res on my new colour screen I should have it, along with flashing messages. How many people have these messages and how many people had and still have a 3310/8250/8210/3315 etc?

Why should Nokia do this? It's not coming from Nokia with the ascii-picture and flashing sms. It's an unsupported feature.
And ascii is to old school (and more used at PCs). And flashing is only avaiable if you have Logomanager or else (you can't set the phone manually to unicode!).
From my friends nobody use these "features". I know some kids (14-16) who use it but that's all.
When I changed from the 3210 to the 6210 I never missed such messages (it even stops my (now) ex-girlfriend from annoying me with such things ). And it's most used by kids & teens. They nearly all (I think about 97%) have low-budget phones (with low resolution) - the so called "fun generation". But these things were not made for use at last.
Nokia never thought about making ascii's for the use with these phones, it was found "by accident" and then starting to spread. So Nokia doesn't have to care...
And I think most people can life with it. And with the upcoming spread of MMS will set an end to this.
Ascii was wide spread, but flashing not... and the "news"-style much lower spread...
If you still want use ascii buy an 3510i it has low resolution
Flashing was also something which one time is funny but then it keeps beeing useless.

Actaully, Why shouldn't nokia make this something that can be used as an option? Some of these messages were special to me and were send from a close friend who has passed away....I should not have to have a lo-res phone, just the option to switch my new one to lo-res.
What is wrong with being backwards compatable anyway? YOU may not want it, but look at how popular 3310/3315's are and how many flashing/"nokia" messages their are!, Nokia SHOULD CARE!

just a suggestion: why not just get a 2nd phone that has low resolution and ascii, buy another sim and store it there. I know I do.
I know the feeling, my friends still send me those type of messages which (using a regular phone) requires you to scroll down....blah blah. But we have to start accepting the new technologies as it upgrades, just like how we accepted other upgrades. Don't worry, maybe someday they'l have a JAVA emulator program which you can install on your new phone to replicate the screen and behavior of old phones

3310/3315/3330 are only popular because they were cheap
When I baught my 6210 nearly everbody I know had a 3310/3330. They say all "oohhh" and were a bit envious
The idea with the Java-Program as emulator is not so bad, maybe somebody has the skills
