There are too many topics about flashing E700.

So, till know we can read in forum how we flash E700:
- New pictures and interface (menu, external and internal screen etc).
- New sounds for standard ones, sms sounds, alert, on/off, etc.
- New firmware with new languages and some extra features.
- Uploading JAVA.

Five things that I cannot find are:
- Structure of firmware. What code is what (I know most. But It could be greatl help)
- Change text (menu, filenames etc)
- Change standard animations.
- Replace tone with bigger. Possible? The truth is the firmware has empty space. But where? And how could we use it?
- A complete guide to use Januka software will be a great help. In his site there's a small one in English and another one Italian. Sorry, I don't speak Italian. (or a guide about DIY, I haven't try it, I don't know it, I don't know if works with E700).

If you think you have answers for these, post them.
If you think there are other demands I missed, post again.

No replies???

I thought this will be a good subject to discuss, since there are so many people asking things in "firmware and flashing" forum...

- Structure of firmware. What code is what (I know most. But It could be greatl help)
Eg: E70XXDA1
E70 is your model Samsung SGH-E700
XX is the country/provider the firmware is made for
D is the year in this case its 2004, W was 2003
A is the month 'a' comes first in the alphabet so it stands for January
1 is the number of builds made based on that firmware

- Change text (menu, filenames etc)
With a Hex Editor.

- Change standard animations.
You can do that with Januka's soft.

- Replace tone with bigger. Possible? The truth is the firmware has empty space. But where? And how could we use it?
Don't try to replace with bigger tones it will messup your firmware.

- A complete guide to use Januka software will be a great help. In his site there's a small one in English and another one Italian. Sorry, I don't speak Italian. (or a guide about DIY, I haven't try it, I don't know it, I don't know if works with E700).
You don't need a guide for that program its easy to use:
1. Click on Automatic Scan
2. Go to the tab 8/16 Bit Raw Images
3. Click on one of the pics in the Raw Images List
4. To replace a pic Double click on the pic in the phone on the right and click replace.

Ok Don
Thanks

When I said "Code", i didn't mean the filename of firmware.
I meant codes inside firmware. Like:

A5EDDC : Sms ringtone
A6FD44 : Ringtone, bird
etc
Same for images

Standard animations, I meant "bear", "fish". The ones that uses for display when stand by...

Thanks man...

The things are on different offsets in every firmware.

For the sounds only:

I have 3 different firmwares, not modified.

E70BDWL1.bin
E70BGDA1.bin
E70ABDA1.bin

The sound codes and filesizes, are identical.
Maybe are standard for every firmware...

By the way, i used Hex editor to change filenames on sounds.
I could say, it's simple... Now I change sounds and filenames.
I know exactly which one is, without remembering or searching.
You know, if you change too many tones, you have to remember
them or search them, beacause the names remain the same.

Thanks for all Don...

By the way...

I tried to change "group settings" pictures. Youn know family, friends etc...
I used Januka, everything ok...
But after I flashed E700, nothing changed. The original pics (these awful cliparts),
remain in phone. Same flashing, I did some minnor changes to sounds and other pics.
These worked perfect.

I suspect that downloader cannot flash entire firmware, just
a major part of it.

Any ideas?

No, I double checked. And I opened the firmware with Januka afterwards and everything was inside...

Don, plz take a look...

- Are all jad,jar files compatible? I mean, can I upload (with TFS File Manager) some jad&jar files I have from an old 7650 or any other phone that handles Java?

- Can I use differnet bin and tfs files? I mean, can I flash my original/modified by me bin and upload an other firmware TFS? What worries me: In TFS, are any vital language elements that would mess up the phone, or only these we see if we open the TFS with TFS File Manager?

- I'm 95% to complete a mod firmware of my original (E70BDWL1) icon_devil.gif . After I finish and double check it, if you allow, I could upload it to mobiledia to share it with other users. That's the reason the forums exists:
Exchange knowledge, share work...

Thanks for ALL advices you gave me... icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif
