Does anyone know how the heck to change the faceplate on this phone? My bf's mom has the same phone and his dad was able to change it. After getting the screws out he just pulled the crap out of it until it came off. I've been able to get the screws out of mine, and I let my bf try and get the faceplate off with no luck. I even took it back to where I bought it and they didn't even know how to get it off! Is there some sort of trick to this or is it just pretty much impossible?
Thanks!
Kristen

Here's how I was able to install my faceplate...
From what I can tell, there are 0 instructions on the Internet about how to do this, but all the websites that sell faceplates say "it's so easy". It's not that hard, but it does take a little bit of work.
First, remove the 2 screws under the little covers on the front (under the SAMSUNG logo).
Pull/push the faceplate away from the screws (raise it up from the back). Basically, you're pulling the faceplate away from the phone. It won't come completely off, but you should get it several millimeters away from the phone.
Next, look at the inside of your new faceplate. See those tiny tabs? There's 2 tiny tabs on each side. They hold in the faceplate. The goal now is that you have to get each of those tabs out on the faceplate that's on the phone. I used a small screwdriver to snap the tabs away from the phone one at a time while pulling up, this released the tabs. At this point, you just lift the faceplate off the phone.
The new faceplate snaps in fairly easy. Just place it on and snap it into place. Replace screws. That's it!

I am on that same boat. I am about to replace the full housing of the phone. I gather that if you put a screwdriver (mini flat one) to those covers they should pop off, they are really only stickers to cover the screws

Anyone know where you can get new covers for the screws? The sticky bits that cover the screws

i have a Samsung X426 and i can get the plate off easily if i could just get the screws out of the thing first! i've tried different types of screw drivers i even went to home depot and the screw drivers they recommended were crappy...i don't understand how everyone else is able to get the screws out when mine won't budge at all!!!

It is very hard to remove those two screws. It almost seems as if they are glued in. What you need is what's called a b4 screwdriver. I had to take my phone to a shop and have them get the cover off because I broke three screwdrivers at sears hardware trying to find one that could turn it. Anyway, she got out her b4 and the screws practically jumped out of the case. Also, for those of you looking to replace more than just the faceplate.... http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/s/j/sjs342 Check out the guide there, and the housings from daydeal over at ebay.com[/url]

Taking the cover off was freaking HARD!!! I consider myself pretty decent at taking apart and fixing electronics things. I have to say, changing faceplates is not for the faint of heart, it feels like you are going to break your phone in half. And if you are not good with your hands, just forget it. Personally, I ended up with some scratches on my brand new X427, and I'm not too happy about that.
The things covering the screws are just stickers. It seemed that if I tried to pry at the edge of the sticker, I would just mutilate it, or scratch the phone. The only way I could get them off was by poking the middle with a screwdriver and sliding it away. This ends up putting a dent in the sticker, but you can still stick them back on when you are done. This is not ideal. It would be great to have new stickers to put on. There doesn't seem to be a source for these little stickers. If someone knows of a place to get them, please let us know!
The screws are tough to get out, but I only had a #0 Philips, not the B4 recommended above. I eventually ended up using the corner of a small flathead to loosen the screws (which was also difficult). The #0 Philips was not grabbing enough, and just stripping the screw.
Pulling the cover away was the scariest part. It feels like you are going to break the face off, or break it right in half. You just need to lift the cover a bit near the hinge, so you can slide something in the gap and pry the tabs of the faceplate away from the rest of the phone. If you use a screwdriver, be careful as it will be easy to make gouges and knicks in the plastic of the phone. After the first tab comes free with a "snap", the rest come easy. The first one came with much relief, because it was the first indication I was on the right track!
After removing the cover, its a snap to put the new one on and put everything back together.
Not sure I would do this again!
