OK, today I'm gonna try an "experiment".
My good old 6610, which a friend of mine now has needs a firmware update to get rid of the annoying light-problem with caller groups.
I bought the phone 16 month ago... so the warranty of 12 month is over (yes, Nokia gives only 12 month of warranty in Europe). But in Germany we've got second kind of warranty...
(Why the hell are both words translated with "warranty"? I could never explain the difference that way )
When the 12 month of Nokia-warranty are expired, o2 is responsible for the next 12 month (because I bought the phone from them) - but in another type of it...
So I go tomorrow to them and insist on this warranty... so o2 has to take the phone to Nokia to let them flash it... could it be more complecated?
During my researches on the web I read, that o2 says to the customer, that Nokia is responsible... which is a lie in this case...
And we won't spent 30 Euro on flashing the phone...
And I have to proof them, that the phone was faulty from the beginning... but this should be easy because the bug is well known...
Why I'm posting this?
To share my experiences with you and to answer some questions... maybe... depends on the warranty laws of your country (for germans it's very helpful )

I'm amazed!
I went to the o2 shop, told the woman my problem and everything... she directly fill a repair order and send it to the o2 central... in the next 48 hours UPS gonna bring me a brand new 6610 and exchanges it with my old one!
That's service!

Got the "new" phone today, even with a document where the old and the IMEI are noted, so I still can use the warranty.
But I'm mistrustful with this phone since it had some sort of new "bugs"... it shuts itself off after a while if I'm using IrDA with my mothers laptop... with my computer I can upload and download and upload... nothing happens... so lets weit a few days...

OK, I kicked them heavy
I get a new 6610 the next few days... if they ain't dump I get my old one with new software...
But...
I hope it's gonna be another broken phone
Because if it's another broken phone, they credit me the price I paid and can choose a new other phone...
I paid that time 149 Euro for it (with contract)... now I could get a Siemens SX1 for 149 Euro...
I hope so much I get a broken phone

Maybe when more people want (want? better " can effort" ) phones?
There are ~82 Million people here in Germany... and 62 Million of them own a cell phone!
That are ~75%
So cell phones are a good bargain!
But there are some dark sides...
Many, many teenagers (and up to middle twenty) deeply encumbered through the phone... some have debts around 3000 Euro (higher).
I saw a report about a family... everyone had his own phone... one of the daughters had a monthly bill from around 600-700 Euro! The father tooks the SIM and she got a PrePaid (so it's called here, most call it "Pay as you go") SIM... she needs to charge money every day... 15 Euro a day... and now she had to work for it.
That's nuts!
(I nearly got an heart attack yesterday when I got my bill... 67 Euro but that's pretty much for me, mostly I've got 35 Euro a month)
So sometimes it's good you can't get a phone that easily...

Guess what?
The phone is broken again it can't be turned on...
I was in the o2 shop... I will get my new Siemens SX1 in exchange when I bring them the complete phone stuff (headset, manual, cd, etc.)
And my friend, who has bought mine 6610 gets my 6220 for additional 30 Euro
Life is fair!
