The latest firmware version is 4.74, many improvements and bug fixes from previous versions... some obvious ones are...
- ability to assign ringtones to caller groups from gallery
- screen backlight will operate if a custom ringtone is assigned to a caller group
- reduced screen flickering, improved contrast
- improved power button response
- more free memory
- images that are smaller than 128x128 will not stretch (distort) to fill the screen

I'm using the V4.74 version. One weird problem that I get is that whenever I use the speed dial feature...I get the word "Received File" on the top of the screen before the phone actually begins dialling the specific phone number. This only happens sometimes. Another problem is in the Gallery, sometimes the Tones/Images are erased automatically. This is very weird. Anyone else having the same problem?

MobiMB is a software which you can use to transfer wallpapers, ringtones, application and games between your phone & the PC. You can connect via ifrared or datacable.
Depending on which version of MobiMB you are using, I understand the v1.2 can sometimes delete files by itself

You may use Sound Converter which comes with the Nokia PC suite or MobiMB. WIth MobiMB, you simply drag and drop the files (ringtones/ wallpapers/ games/ applications etc) from your PC onto the phone. There are many other polyphonic tones available but only the 4 ch ones are compatible with the Nokia phones. Therefore there is a likelihood that a tone which is transferred onto your phone does not work.
The Sound Converter allows you can choose the 4-ch tones for your phone. This application is free.
