I've got customers in MS and coverage is generally pretty good as long as you're using a GSM only phone that is 850 and 1900 capable (which all their new ones are).
Get rid of that T62u if at all possible.

for you multi band phones (just as good as any) just switch them to GSM only so they ignore the TDMA signal...ergo no dropped calls due to system switch

The T62u? Oi.
Man, if we have to get a GAIT phone, get the 6340i. Much more relaible. Elmo's correct in that a transfer from GSm to TDMA is seamless, but it can't switch back to GSM without dropping the call.

the t62u sucks...if you are still within your 30 days exhange it for a nokia.
Can a Cingular sim card be transferred from a Ericsson T62u to a Nokia 4010?
I am near the end of a two-year contract with Cingular via SBC , and right near my house in central Houston my phone tells me that it doesn't recognize my phone as having a valid account. Sometimes restarting the phone helps, sometimes not. Signal strength is good. I noticed that SBC/Cingular no longer sells the T62u, but their basic phone is now Nokia 4010. I was wondering if a newer phone might resolve the problem. I won't renew with Cingular if I can't resolve the problem, but it would be worth spending $40 on Ebay to get a new Nokia if I could just put in the sim card and see if it works at my house.

Cingular sold me a Nokia 6340I telling me at the time that it was thier only phone that worked in Europe. Got to Europe and it did not work! They refused to swap phones with me and were very unapologetic. I will never trust them again.
They are the worst. Their whole customer service center is design to avoid customers ... that is always a bad sign about a company ...

I sorta noticed that i .... i dunno... I sorta think that the reception of Cingular would have been better without AT&T.
Does anyone know if Cingular Sim cards Register with AT&T service set phones?? that would be a cool feature.
I dunno...I woulda liked it if Cingular stayed Independent..
but i do guess that 2 gsm Satellites in the sky are better than one i suppose.
Oh god no....
Cingular's service was horrible before the merger with AT&T wireless. Atleats here in central florida, very view people, I knew had cingular before its merger. when I use to have an AT&T phone after the merger it would register with both networks, and now both are present, but the current new cingular network, is a merged network of the old cingular and old AT&T network, which means the AT&T users are losing there network and getting screwed.
I agree I wish cingular stayed independent as well though, I miss the quality and cheap plans of AT&T wireless.
To bad they didnt get bought by VodaFone
good thing I can manual swithc to eithe network on my phone.

Cingular's coverage in Florida is EXCELLENT. i don't know where you live, but unless it is inside an alligator's belly in a swamp you should have great reception. former ATT users are not getting screwed, the "blue" network is being converted to "orange" and the SIM's on formr ATTW customers phones are being reprogrammed to home to the new network. The MAIN problem is that many ATTW phones were 1900 Mhz only, and Cingular's network is primarily 850 Mhz. east of the mississippi.
ATTW was bought out for a reason, and having the plans they did was one reason. people don't realize that a cell compnay is a for-profit organization. we can't just give out boatloads of minutes and upgrade our network at the same time. look at T-mobile. they have good plans, but crappy coverage. they arent even going to be fully deployed with EDGE until the end of next year - if that. They arent spending money on network upgrades, because its not there - they are spending it on maintianing a network to handle as many calls at once as possible - which is counterproductive.
if they want to expand their network, they will also need to lower their minutes on their plans as well, but then they lose customers since the value is lost when compared to VZW or Cingular. so they are in a catch-22 and this is what ATTW tried to do and failed at it.

HAHAHAHAHA
sorry, but i had to laugh. GSM has NOTHING to do with satellites. NOTHING NADA. ZIP. ZILCH.
and what do you mean by Cingular staying independent? it has been and still is a joint venture. we just absorbed another company into ours, so more towers, more coverage, and only better things to come.
by the way, if anyone reads the trade mags, you'll notice that Cingular improved their Customer Service score a full grade last quarter.

From the Jenkins County(30442) to Washington County(31082) in Ga. There is no signal whatsoever except in Millen and Sandersville. Once you leave, 4 get it. back in the stoned ages. Go with Verizon.
