It sounds like you got a bad phone. You should try the LG phones they are good phones.

I plan on getting a Nokia 7610 from one of my friends. Thing is though that he lost the box and manual, so it's just the phone and charger (no big deal). Now, I'm wondering, is there a way to find out if a phone uses 850Mhz or 900Mhz?

The regular 7610 uses 900, while the 7610b uses 850. But they both look exactly alike. My only problem is that I live in an area that uses 850...so it has been pretty much a necessity. Otherwise, I would have no problem with a phone from overseas. More than likely you knew about that already . Thanks though, steva11

How do I find out if my local area uses EGSM 900 or GSM 1800 in my local area of Kansas City.
I also travle throughout the use but was wondering about KC right now.

900 and 1800 are not north american frequencies... 850 and 1900 are...

Sorry I meant 1900. Is it safe to say that both Cingular and T-Mobile use it everywhere? I see that Cingular also will use 850 but how can I tell where Cingular will use 850 versus 1900?
