I bought 2 phones from a west coast dealer for use in the eastern part of the country. One showed no signal in a strong signal area; the replacement he sent shows less than half signal where my other phones show full. Is there a difference in west coast service that makes phones work great there and poorly in the east?

Long story short, I've had cingular for 2 1/2 yrs and have had no problem talking in my house or yard, for some reason I have no area in home for about 3 wks, but don't know when it first started as I don't talk much at home only long distance, any way have been though customer serivce and tech support and they are now telling me that is my house, lol
yeah rightI do have area across the street. This makes no sence to me, any one have any ideas? I'm not allowed to use cell at work, and now it won't work at home, so what do I have one for. Oops forgot to mention... changed sim card, wasn't the problem, next got a new RazarV3, that wasn't it either. I will go as far as I can w/ this , I don't have the extra money to get out of the contract, which I just renewed in Dec 05 for 2 yrs.

Thanks for reading my gripe

Sounds like something is now blocking your reception. Did a new building go up, or a tree leaf out?

You could experiment with an auxillary antenna or signal booster.

A few weeks ago I asked if anyone knew what it cost Cingular to install a cellular tower.

The answer was in todays USA Today in an article in which Cingular says it is installing 60 towers at a cost of 45 million dollars in Las Vegas...$750,000 per tower. WOW!

Cingular doesn't get any of the hot new phones. I mean at one point we were the only ones to have the razr but now everyone has them and verizon even has one with an mp3 player. If they arent going to get some new hot phones, then at least upgrade to a v3i or v3m. Also, why cant we get something like a sidekick 3 or a moto q. All we have for smart phones is blackberrys and a treo 650 which has already been replaces by the treo 700w and 700p, which cingular still hasent gotten or lowered the price on the 650.

Well why don't you address your issue to Cingular?

All cellular companies are in the wireless business and not the phone business. Consequently, they make their money providing services and are constantly seeking ways to expand the services. A typical Cingular plan is 900 minuntes for $59.99. That equates to approximately .07 per minute. The cost to Cingular is certainly much less, even when you allocate their research and development costs and capital expenditures.
For those who focus on phones, it would seem a reasonable approach is to buy an unlocked phone from a reliable source that will operate on the network of your carrier. Yes, you will pay more but it frees you from the early termination fees and other charges. Remember, when you buy a phone from a carrier at a subsidized price with a contract, you are locked in for the duration of the contract. Again, consider a purchase where the subsidy is $100 with a two year plan costing $60 per month. Over the two year period you will pay $1,440 assuming no overages and will have the $150 early termination fee hanging over your head. What did you save? Zero!! Buy the same phone without the subsidy and you have freedom as well as chocie.
The bottom line - cell phone carriers are in the wireless business and you should use them to meet your wireless needs. Phone purchases are a commodity transaction and you should use a good retailer as your supplier.

BINGO !!!! My phones (Cingular) worked great at our house [that's why we got them] until 3 days ago, when, I did as instructed and went and had my 32k sim replaced with a 64k sim - to improve my reception so said the tech. Now I can't make a call from my house unless I go outside and climb a ladder. What happened??? Where is the tower that has worked so well for me the last 2 years? I won't even go into what customer service suggested. Tech support said they will try and switch me to another tower to see if that helps. lol I just kept asking them, which tower was I using 3 days ago [no answer] !!! icon_mad.gif

Cingular claims that it has "the least dropped calls" by an independent study. This has not be the case for me. Almost every call was dropped in the Malibu/Topanga area including areas on the 101 and Woodland Hills.
Over the past 1.5 years of pleading with Cingular and basically going unheard, i switched to Verizon. My reception was 100x's better and virtually no dropped calls. To add insult to injury, Cingular charged me and deducted from my bank account a early termination fee. A cingular spokesperson said that i broke the contract and that's it. i said to her that her company failed to provide adequate coverage in my area and almost every call is a drop. My business contacts and friends stopped calling me due to an unreliable connection. This cost me dearly.
i am starting a class action against Cingular for false advertizing. If anyone is interested please contact me by reply. icon_sad.gif
