I had alltel and I had the worst reception ever. It didnt work in half the places that Verizon does and on top of that they use many of verizon towers. (Alltel rep told me that.) They might own other companies to make them the largest but is all 3 companies using CDMA technology so that the phones work on every tower that is offered. I love hearing Cingular saying that have the largest Voice and Data Network bc of the AT&T Merge but what they dont tell you use that your cingular phone will not work on AT&T Towers and visaversa for that matter. Yes, the CEO of Verizon Communications said an idiot comment. But the CEO of Verizon Wireless would never say that. When you talk about Communications and Wireless your talking about Apples and Oranges. Alltel is still trying to pull themselves out of debt by selling there wired company almost 6 months ago. With a profit share of -4.2 in the Florida region, I think I would stay away from alltel. The only 3 companies that is positive from last years numbers is TMoble, Verizon Wireless, and Metro PCS(Churning 25%) so they really dont matter much.

I was told by a friend who works at a cell phone company that Verizon and Sprint coverage are comparable. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm leaving T-Mobile because while call quality is good, I can never actually start a call b/c I lose reception inside a lot of buildings (Samsung E715), so I NEED RECEPTION.
Maybe Sprint provides the same reception without the bad customer service and high prices????

Not really. From what I have seen, Sprint coverage lacks where VZW gets superior signal

Sprint doesn't even own all of their network for one, and according to JD power and Consumer Reports, Sprint doesn't have really good customer service. Their network isn't bad certainly any network thats CDMA is better any day than GSM, thats why CDMA is used in Asia widely and in the future it will penetrate Europe even with the law that will be overturned. Check coverage on all the carriers websites in your area but as a rule verizon has the most advanced and well maintained network they throw more money into it than any other carrier. Good customer service, nice phones. Oh by the way this comes from a Network Technician so my opinion is an informed one. Every carrier has holes some place where towers aren't going to cover. So check coverage maps. Use the trial peroids to your advantage.

Well, I can attest that Alltel has way more towers in AZ vs Verizon and the reception I've had with Verizon since moving to Az has sucked from day one. I've not been able to hold a signal with Verizon unless I'm driving in my car or.....standing in the middle of the street. It doesn't work in my house, it doesn't work in my backyard or front yard. And when I try to contact Verizon about it, they've done nothing but give me the run around and (without using the exact word) have called me a liar.

Alltel more towers okay LOL, where do u get your info from Verizon like Cingular are nationwide networks they both have the biggest customer bases around, they may not own every tower that they advertise on their network, but both combined spend 12 billion just in the last year on their networks. Oh and by the way before you buy a phone check coverage, plus thats why carriers offer TRIAL peroids.

I would not recommend Verizon. Not only have I heard several complaints about their customer service, they don't stand behind the phones they cell. They often push products on customers with false information. I have heard several friends and family (myself included) complain about the hard time they have had with battery life of LG phones bought through Verizon and then customer service in response to it.
My sister has returned 2 phones just this week because of battery life and a bad LCD screen. You should also note that while she was able to return the phone, they wouldn't do anything about the battery. She was forced to buy another battery.
I personally left Verizon because I wasn't happy with their coverage. I travel quite a bit with my job. I am currently using Nextel and while the coverage is not perfect, at least they are upfront with their coverage plan... and when you think you're going to have service, you have it! I HATE watching all of these ridiculous Verizon commercials claiming they have the best coverage. FALSE ADVERTISING and POOR customer service.

here was your chance to use your (sic) independantly acclaimed customer service skills... you blew it...reposting the same verbiage repeatedly does nothing for the complaining customer and makes you look like a robot spewing mindless script
