I cannot access WAP sites that start with HTTPS:// even though my friends using SprintPCS and Cingular can from their WAP enabled phones.
I am using Tmo's free WAP. I emailed their tech support about it and was told that it is becuase my phone cannot handle 128-bit encryption necessary for SSL. I have a Samsung E715. I'm not sure I buy that.
Does TMobile block the SSL port?

I have a Motorola MPX200, and I am having the same problem. T-mobile claims they do not block anything. I know it is not my cell phone, but T-mobile will not help me since the MPx200 is not supported by them. They keep telling me to call Motorola, and Motorola says to call T-mobile. I think the real problem is that the people answering the phones dont have any idea how to configure them - and they are just reading a bunch of canned answers.
Let me know if you find out anything.

I actually spoke with a level 2 tech support guy about the issue. He said that the mini-browser built into my E715 cannot do 128-bit SSL, AND that I couldn't do SSL through the wap.voicestream.com gateway. I asked him several times if they actually block the SSL port on the free gateway and he would not give me a direct answer. He kept saying I couldn't access it anyway due to my phone's limitations. He was Indian so our communication was not 100% clear, but at one point I think he indicated that they DO block SSL on the free gateway since the cellphone browsers can't do SSL anyway. Some nice circular logic there.
In an effort to see if they just want me to pay $10 a month, I asked if I signed up for the $10 data plan could I do it then. He said I would still need a different handset. He went on to say that the minimum device I would need (that they sell, I am assuming) would be a Treo 600. That has a full browser (Blazer I think) that can do 128-bit SSL. and I would be changing my gateway at that point to internet2. or internet3. It going to be a pretty cold day in Hell when I hop on the corporate Übergeek bandwagon and strap a $500 paving stone to my belt so I can check my email. Unless of course my company wants to pay for it all.....
So it appears that someone at TMobile thought this one through. They give you the free and essentially useless WAP. Seeing the possibilities, you WANT more, but in order to "Get More," you have to PAY MORE!!!! Katherine Zeta Jones would be mortified.

On a handset ie a cell phone you will not be able to access SSL I work in the level 2 and I can pretty much assure you .. you spoke to someone I work with as there is only one call center in North America.. actully in the world for TMobile US.
You will actully need to subscribe to Tmobile Unlimited Internet and add those settings in to your phone to use SSL and again yes it does depend if your phone browser or the program you are trying to use supports SSL... and yes the internet feature is 19.99 a month.. it sucks yes i know... tmobile blocked all externa sites from there free wap gateway.. and the pay one still will not allow you to access http or https sites because that way ppl would be able to use there phone as a modem for as little as $4.99 a month and they don't that happening as it was happening in the past. hope this information helps!
