I have a v600 which is working fine in all areas but one. I cannot use as a dial-up bluetooth modem with my ipaq 4150. I can transfer files, dial numbers from contacts etc, but when I try to use dialup networking it begins to dial then the phone bluetooth goes into a sort of sleep mode until a connection is made and then the pocket pc gives an error message stating that there was no computer on the other end of the line. I am using the correct number so I am thinking the problem is the sleep mode bluetooth goes into during teh dial process, I have noticed this with my headset as well. Is there any way of turning the sleep mode off on the phone?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I run into the same problem with my ipaq 4150 and Nokia 6820 bluetooth enabled, i though to share here and maybe we can think of a solution together (two minds are better than one). There is slight different behaviour in my scenario - the ipaq sends the number to dial, the phone dial the number but then i can hear a "wrong number" tone, then the phone disconnect the call and the ipaq retry with the same result.
when dialing the number directly from the phone i get the modem tone from the remote access server (thats just to verify that the number is correct and there is an access server at the other end). so now i'm trying to understand what whent wrong in the communications between the ipaq and the cellphone. a bluetooth net analyser would hel here but i guess this is too much to ask icon_twisted.gif
if anyone has an idea, i'll appreciate.
Thx.

After long night of trials and searches... here is how i managed to connect:
It seems that the cellphone can't act as a bluetooth modem. when you establish a connection from ipaq to the cellphone and then the ipaq sends the number to dial, the cellphone is looking to dial an GPRS accesspoint, so the number you provided is a dialup access server and not GPRS accesspoint.
the solution:
Go to AT&T and download the Communication Manager for Pocket PC http://www.attwireless.com/media/downloads/CommunicationManagerPPC.exe
This software will auto discover all the networks you need and then you can choose any network you registered to. (Big aPPLOUSE at&T).
btw - delete any "Bluetooth dialup connection" setting you created on your ipaq before trying to connect with the AT&T soft.

I hope it work for you...

Hey mitlausen thanks for the response.

Correct me if I am wrong but using the method that you stated would mean you need to purchase a data plan from your service provider.

What I am thinking should be possible is to use the phone as a modem and go on-line using my dial-up account and therefore only have to use my normal phone minutes, and not a data plan.

Does anyone know if this is possible or not?

I've just been down this road. I'm now able to use the phone to dial into my local ISP via USB off my desktop or Bluetooth off my IPAQ 4155. To do USB you need software that can create a USB Modem. You can either download Mobile Tools from Motorola or get the Data Connectivity kit from Cingular. I also had the DataPilot kit from Best Buy and it also has the cable. Bluetooth from the IPAQ is pretty straitforward and does not require the Data Connectivity kit for PocketPC even though they tell you it does. In fact it conflicted with my bluetooth on the IPAQ. The biggest trick is getting the required Data Service turned on from Cingular! It took 5 seperate phone calls to make it happen correctly. Emphasize to them that you want to dial into your local ISP using your phone as a modem. They'll sign you up for the pay as you go plan but then need to tack on the GSM Data option for 3.99 an month. If only dialing into your ISP it just uses your voice plan minutes. Each time you call make sure they have the necessary codes entered and have you registered for the service. Both have to happen. Trust me I found out the hard way.

I have a Dell C640, Kensington USB Bluetooth adapter, and the Motorola Tru-Sync software. Win2k OS

I had exactly the same problem:
Blue Tooth connection OK
All other blue tooth phone-to-pc functionality ok
Data call -- phone tries to dial, gets a 3-note tune (like the ma-bell "we're sorry but your call cannot be completed....." message) almost immediately.....it never dials out.
An error message is returned by the Dial-up Network software saying that the far end didn't answer.
Modem diagnostics thru control panel shows the modem is working fine.

Cingular couldn't help me.
Motorola couldn't help me.

Mr. Oz, however, saved the day.

Armed with your post, i still had to wrestle with Cingular Tech Support. Finally the technician just did what I parroted off your post:

for you others who will certainly follow, Mr. Oz was specifically correct; It is a two-step process. You MUST:
1) Get the technician to activate the "use as you go data access." (they will 1st think they must not...even delete it if it's present...because it appears to them to be a duplication of your data service).
THEN
2) Get the technician to add the $3.99 monthly GSM data connect service.

115k connection working like a champ now!
