Several have talked about upgrading the V205 to the V200 software? Where can you get the upgrade? Can this be done with just a data cable? Someone mentioned a "flashing" cable was necessary? Would upgrading affect my mobile service? I currently use T-Mobile.

venerabede,

I have seen the upgrade software bundled with the flash cable for sale on e-bay 4 around $40.00 usd. I have read on other forums that a "data" only cable will not work, that you need a flash cable. however, Samsung calls theirs a Data Link Cable ??
Flashing the phone should not affect your mobile service, but you will need to re-input your WAP/ and GSM/GPRS settings etc... You will gain some new features such as a 20x digital zoom, and piano mode etc.
I have not flashed my 205 yet as I'm trying to figure out if the sms is limited to 70 charachters sending AND receiving.
I hope this answers your questions, forgive me if I have left anything out, I'm still rather new at this whole "flashing" thing.

What does this do other than fix the zoom? Where can I get it. And does it have new message alerts?

There are a lot of minor things that change, but some of those are firmware specific. For me, the other big changes are that you can transfer pictures to your computer via the datacable (this feature was disabled in the v205), the wording that blocks the wallpaper can be removed and the startup/shutdown screens are different. I dont know about the message alerts.

the most obvious differences flashing your v205 to v200 would give you the option to removing time/date off the screen. you also get zoom features with the camera, amongst other stuff. the only thing you would lose (it's not a big deal at all) is the phonebook shortcut. it's just one extra button you have to press. yes, you need a cable, preferrably an oem cable (part no. PCB093LBE). it has a "d/l <-> data" switch. everything else you need (optiflash and firmware) is listed in the above post by azndude51.
