Well...

You can nearly everywhere buy a phone. But they ain't that extreme cheap as the one which you can order on some websites (up to 150 Euro you could save that way).

But if you want to buy in a shop, I would consider buying them in a Mediamarkt.
They've got medium prices...

I wouldn't buy in one of the providers shop (expecially Vodafone) because of brandings (Vodafone even puts there Vodafone logo on the outside of many phones).

To buy a phone, just go into the shop and tell them, you want a phone without a contract. That's all.
Normally there are some dummies lie around so you can get a feeling for the phone and you get to know which phones they sell.
So first take a time, maybe it helps you making a decision.

In some major cities are Nokia Shops.

If you want a Nokia phone I would recommend the 6230, it can quite everything you want, has no Symbian OS (like the 6600) - but that's something I would consider as good because the battery life time of Symbian OS phones is quite bad.

If the 6230 it to pricy, get the 6220... it's quite like the 6230 but no mp3, no MMC and no 65k display (only 4k - but most times you don't see a difference)

The 6230 should be around 400-450 Euro in a normal shop
The 6220 shouldn't be more than 300 Euro

Definitivly you should take 1-2 days to walk around (depend on the cities size where you go icon_biggrin.gif in small cities you can do it within 2 hours icon_biggrin.gif) and compare prices, maybe even try to chaffer, because that's legal in Germany everywhere icon_biggrin.gif

I know a website where you could order the 6230 for 370 Euro and the 6220 for 222 Euro.
They deliever fast, phones could be software-branded... but that's something you could live with...

I got my 6600 from them... delievered within a week.
They phone was announced as branded on the website... but it wasn't... it was a import phone from France. Works perfectly.

Yes, but Mediamarkt is still quite expensive (especially with computers!). Price comparing brings alot!

Sure you can make a contract... on your brothers name! The owner of the contract must life in Germany - many providers had problems with foreigners who get a contract, leave gemany with the cheap phone and the provider could do nothing.

If you gonna make a contract, only go to a real provider shop. There are a lot of other shops (Phonehouse as example) but I wouldn't really trust them (one selled a friend of mine a new 3510i... with a cheap battery from china, no original one...).

You might take a look on the websites of our providers, the offers they've got there are in 70-80% also available in the shops.

www.o2online.de
www.t-mobile.de
www.vodafone.de
www.eplus.de

Don't get one from Debitel, the are the worst sub-provider I know.

If your brother really want's to use the contract, you really should get a original one, no sub-provider... they mostly offer the phones cheaper, but prices for making calles are the worst, way to high...

Or you can do it like me: I got my 6220 for free with a contract from a sub-provider... I pay 9,95 Euro a month and have 50 SMS for free... in the end I pay 95 cent more and have the phone... the 50 SMS I use every month...

I got mine from www.eteleon.de - they are good for phone for free with a "useless" contract...

www.einfachpreiswert.de is the cheapest website for phone without a contract.

You can see the monthly fee as holdback payment icon_biggrin.gif

The P900 is awesome... but the price... you've got to pay nearly 300 Euro (without a contract more for the P900 than for the P800... and the differences ain't that great that they are worth 300 Euro...

The 6600 is nice... but the battery... It's quite annoying to charge the battery every 3-4 days, 6-7 is pleasanter with a "normal" phone.

I would recommend the Siemens SX1 before getting the 6600... the SX1 is better (ok, they are quite even) - hot-swapping the MMC is nice, I hate it to take out the battery to get the MMC...

Well, I think it's more a PDA than a phone... and you might look very dumb when you make a call icon_biggrin.gif

And afaik the phone only works good with o2, all others might have problems.

Well, the prices are listed on the provider websites are the one you've got to pay for the phone and the minimum fee per month is 9,95 Euro (Some do have 4,95 Euro, but you have a minimum usage of 5 Euro - so you still have 9,95 Euro per month).

Germany is always expensive, expecially since the have introduced Euro...

But the prices are compareable... the 3410 ain't much more, the 7250i "only" 40 Euro.
