lol Wow this is pretty old. Well anyways, my father had this phone and I don't remember him mentioning that he could record videos. Although, he pretty much used his samsung sgh-e715 for business or for taking pictures. Anyways, if you go to http://www.gsmarena.com then click on Samsung and click on OLD phones, then find your model. It says that there's only a camera (vga?), but I don't see video. So I'm guessing there's no video. :/ Maybe that's why I'm glad I had the sgh-e315 over the e715, as there seems to be quite a few complications with the e715 back last year.
Also, I've heard of the screen getting really bright, and it's happened to my friend's phone, whom also has the e715. There seems to be no way in which to make it less bright. I've heard of quite a few people with problems regarding the screen, where in some cases it was too bright and was hard to see.
No offense, but the e715 is kind of a bad choice as a phone. There are plenty of new phones in the market nowadays, where Samsung finally updated some of their glitches.
As for easy GPRS, you should go to my.samsungmobile.com (fun club -- yay!) and then click on manuals/software under the PHONES menu, then download PC Studio 2.0, the "new" easyGPRS and all the other programs. PC Studio 2.0 came with my samsung sgh-e730 (a more updated model of yours) along with all the drivers, so I was able to use my usb data cable (came with my phone) to upload files as well as download files to and from my phone.
PC Studio is basically easyGPRS anyways, since it has almost the exact same things. As for infrared, I don't know anything about that, sorry. :]

i just got a E715 as a gift. my dad's laptop has an infrared connection on the back of the laptop.
im wondering where can i get the latest software (im guessing this easygprs ?) and a working link - ive tried so many around these forums and none worked please. and what can i do with it ? copy pix from cellphone to comp, can i copy .wav files or something as ringtones on my cellphone or what?
also, im wondering if theres any mod to make the cellphone read unicode as we're in israel and the cellphone is from the US so it doesnt display any characters on hebrew stuff ?
and lastly, how can i adjust the brightness on the display itself - no the camera but the display, it was really bright yesterday, today it seems fine but i donnu i dont want it to happen again
lastly, does this cellphone take videos or just photos ? seems like just photos
edit: just noticed i bumped this thread back from 2 years ago LOL!!!
anyways thanks for the help please if you may answer all my questions that would just rock the house
Thanks guys,

Yes. It should be Samsung PC STudio PIMS and File Manager 2.0, or well that's what I use. But hey, I don't know anything about infrared. Your best bet is to read the other posts, because it seems like others got it to work?
I don't have infrared on my phone, but I have bluetooth (I haven't attempted it yet), but I transfer files through a usb data cable. Also, you don't know if your phone supports Java? My father has a new phone now, a Nokia 7270, so I really can't ask him when he didn't really use all the features within his phone. Just the camera and calling people. But judging by gsmarena.com, it says that it supports Java. Aren't your games Java games? I haven't attempted uploading java games onto my phone through PC Studio.. I didn't even know if you can.. o__O"
You upload pictures (or wallpapers) using PC Studio. PC Studio also allows you to download photos from your phone that you took.
As for .wav files, I can't answer that. Although, judging by the phone memory (9 MB), I highly doubt that your phone can hold a .wav file, since .wav files are HUGE files. One of my songs that's a .wav file is 40 mb, alone. Perhaps it takes .mmf files? If so, that's a totally different story. :]

ya, it takes .mmf files, where can i get free ones ?
also, ya i tried the prog yesterday myself - it worked like a charm only thing is i need a site with loads of popular songs etc of .mmf files so i can copy sounds there, and also where in the world do i copy the java apps/games to ? in the software it has Images+Sounds+Photos(which thats the one via the camera and Images as the one which i copy onto) so where do i upload the Java stuff to ?! its almost useless without the Java stuff as i have so much java apps/games on my pc that i can load to this phone and my nokia 6100 (which i also posted in the nokia section of the forums about )
edit: im leaving for a field trip early tomorrow morning till thursday late so basically friday so ill catch u guys there please answer my questions if u can both here and in the nokia 6100 thread and i will be grateful and give em all a try once i get back from the field trip
btw regarding E715 shitty - my sis and her husband keep changing cellphones, they live in the usa - whenever they change and their older is tri-band they bring it here and then the worst cellphone one of us has is kept in some drawer and we all "move up a rank" so now my dad got the E715 and i got his nokia 6100 although i also have a nokia 6220 but my sis dropped it and now the 3,6,9 keys dont work so its useless so im on the 6100 and i do prefer it although it doesnt have radio as the 6220
keep in touch guys, ill cya all on friday hopefully all my questions will be answered both in this thread and the nokia 6100 one, that would own
Thanks,
KoMoDo

Actually, you can make your own .mmf tones. Or rather, I did. First you must chop off a piece of the tone using Audacity and save as a .wav file (preferably a 10 second clip), then use the Wave to SMAF Converter (WSC-MA2-SMAF) at this URL: http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/downloads.html
DL and convert. :]
I'm not sure about games, since I really haven't tried it yet. Also, I have a samsung e730 (wayyy upgraded model), thus I can't guarantee anything since I've never had the e715. My dad used to have it, and one of my friends now has it, although I haven't contacted her for a while...
Good luck. Also, lava files should have a .JAR extension, I believe. But hey like I said, I've never tried to before.

ya they're .jar i also have a nokia 6100 which i will mess around with very soon. thanks for the .mmf program ill give it a go soon enuff - i have loads of .wav and .mid files now for my nokia 6100 i hope they will work there, but for the .mid files which are more, how do i convert those to .mmf in order for them to work on the samsung e715 ? im just experimenting here as its my dad's phone and i think he doesn't need a new ringtone. that's why the main thing i want is for someone to help me with the java apps/games so i can run them on his cellphone because its much more powerful than my 6100 :-\
OK! i just found a very good program that allows you to convert frmo midi and wav to mmf or from mmf to midi/wav and its perfect for what i want to do! ill give it a go soon enuff now theo nly problem i have is how to copy Java apps/games into the phone, help out plz
Thanks,

I'm looking at getting the ZX10 when it comes out in a couple weeks and was wondering about this.
Could MP3 ringtones be transferred over IrDA?

Um.. Sorry, but I haven't heard of the ZX10? Do you mean the Z510? If so, I believe the Z510 doesn't have InfraRed. I'm not sure what phone model you're talking about. Is it.. a.. Samsung?
Anyways, as for InfraRed, yes mp3 ringtones can be sent over. I'm not sure how, but I heard of people who've done it before. Rather, you should look up the specifications of your phone first.
Does the phone have bluetooth? If so, you can always transfer files through that, using Dongle. I heard it's much easier than USB port. I need to get me one of those Dongle things. :]

No, it's the ZX10. It's coming out within the next couple weeks for Cingular.
It doesn't have Bluetooth. Its replacement in Q2, the ZX20, will have it though.
It does have a Transflash memory card, so I'm hoping that makes it easier. However, I'm going to make sure this time as I tried the LG CE500 that had the memory card but would NOT allow anything to be read but MP3s from the memory card. And those couldn't be used as ring tones.
