Hello, all.
I am relatively new to these more modern cell phones that include all the capabilites such as cameras/video/ and ringtone personalizing. The a670 is a great phone and I spent HOURS on the internet trying to figure out how to access the data I have on it as well as how to add ringtones and wallpapers - I refuse to pay to send a simple tone to it for use and want the ability to use my own pictures/ animations.
I purchased an OEM data cable for it and then downloaded EASY GPRS 2.1.8 - which seems to be the latest version of the software. This software is also the one most mentioned for Samsung phone data transfer.
Well, the software itself seems great. I think I can do all the things I mentioned with it - and more (including thing the phone as a modem/ internet link). The only problem I have right now is that in the GPRS setup, you specify the port to use and all that you can choose between are COM ports - but my data cable is USB. Hence, it doesn't see any connection to my phone.
Does anyone know a way around this? Or can anyone suggest another way to do this? I read a few people mention replicating a COM port using the USB cable but this is something I've never done or know how to do.
Thanks so much in advance. (BTW, I am using Win XP Pro with the Easy GPRS sftware).

I think that EasyGPRS only works with the GSM versions for your CMDA you can try using one of the PCLink Softwares http://www.anycallpclink.co.kr/i-down.html .

I really appreciate your response!
I downloaded the USB to COM driver you provided a link for but I believe it's just a modem driver (I installed it anyway). The link you gave for the tutorial was more helpful - even though it's in Korean?... I couldn't even run it through Babel Fish.
After examining the page for a while, however, I gathered that the converter (USB to COM) you were talking about is contained within a download from Anycallpclink website (according to the pictures). I would like to attempt to try using Easy GPRS with a converter before I use the Anycall software... but since the converter file is contained within the anycall software, I need to download that first. My problem is that I don't know which one to download and the page won't translate. Which of the PCLinks from http://www.anycallpclink.co.kr/i-down.html do you think I would have to use?
Again, thanks for the help and information so far.

Thanks, again.
That last link DID give me PCLink2000 but it's in Spanish, I believe. Nonetheless, I installed it and ran it... I got nowhere. Not being able to read the menus and options didn't help but I didn't get anything to load up.
Did ALOT more searching on the net. Seems like there's no PCLink2000 download that I can find in english - and the program is supposed to be free, too! Doh!
According to this page ( http://www.mobiletop.co.kr/English/application/app02.htm ), PCLink2000 IS the latest version of the software, so now I know what the differences were between the different options in the Korean page you sent me. However, I still can't DL and install the PCLink from that page because it is all (including the installation).
So I finally came across a forum where someone offered this link for PCLink software though it is for the models 620 and 680. It is not PCLink2000 but when I installed and ran it, it came up with a pop up window that informed me about the new voice recognition software on my Samsung phone (which I have) so it MUST be pretty recent. It is also packaged as PCLink 1.25 which isn't a version listed anywhere... and it it was, it would have been from about 1997-1998 so that doesn't sound right.
Regardless, I ran it and I still can't get anything to show up. The funny thing is when I choose the menu option to connect to my phone, it works and detects it! This is even though the setup menu only allows you to choose between the 620 and 680 model. Still, it says it has detected my ACH-670 but nothing shows up. When I try to sync from Phone to PC, it has errors.
I've written Samsung directly. This is getting frustrating. I will try a little more but after that, I think I'm sticking a fork in this.

Any progress on tracking down the English PCLink 2000 software? Just got my 670 yesterday and have started crusing around trying to figure out how to upload stuff to it.
The sales rep showed me how to send a PIX message to yourself with sound, save the sound and then use that sound as your ringtone, but I dunno if you can do that from an email or not.

Nope, no luck with finding the software. I can't believe in this day and age it would be so tough to find something that is free. I DID find a version that had the same name but was made or distributed by another company... and so it requires that you purchase it in order to get to use all of its functions.
No matter, I always get the same problem, which is that all this software doesn't allow for a USB connection, just serial. I have no idea why they would do this since everything seems to be USB nowadays. I will have to get my hands on the USB to serial port converter and try it with the original software I got. Maybe then I'll get something.
I even contacted Samsung and they just recommend not using any non-official Samsung software as it may damage the phone. The only other thing they suggested is contacting Verizon and getting the Mobile Office Kit. From what I've seen though, I think this will only manage phone numbers, not do all the other stuff like upload ringtones and photos. I don't really want to pay for something that has less functionality than something that is free.... just have to find it is all.
PS, Brendan hasn't logged on since March and private messaging is disabled

Just found this site looking for the same thing you all are. But I have the SCHa670 with the mobile office kit, and a copy of pclink 2000 (english) and it still doesn't work. It'll find the phone with the USB cord on COM 4. It says its transfering files but it does that for hours and nothing happens.
P.S. I did the send a pic email to myself and save it. Then save the sound for the ringer. That worked cool. Actually you just have to hit send then cancel it, then view it in your outbox and save it to saved files. Then you can save the sound seperate.
I would just like to get the pics off the phone without sending them to an email.
So... Next
