I'd like to be able to optimize the palettes of the wallpapers I make / modify so that they only make use of the colours that the 6100 is able to display. I know its out of 4096 colors butI don't know what those 4096 colours are!
Is there a plugin for Paintshop Pro, or any other tool, that will do this? It doesn't seem to be a function built into PC Suite.
Thanks

Mostly you won't see any difference...
Afaik PC Suite decreases pictures to 256 colors (8 bit).
On phone displays a difference can't be really telled... it took me even a while to see the difference between 4k and 65k color display...
It's easy to see the difference on a computer display, but on a phones display it's hard.
Did you know that 4096 colors are 12 bit?
You only need a program that can use the 12 bit color palette
BTW: This here is the complete palette of colors... if interested

Further to what I said above I've been trying varying amounts of colours to optimize filesizes... two versions of the same picture with different amounts of colours often looks the same on my monitor but looks different on my phone. Areas which only lightly contrasted on my monitor became very different on my phone. I figured that the phone was matching them to the nearest colour, which turned out not to be all that near!
I figured that 4096 colours was 12-bit, but it didn't occur to me that there was maybe such thing as a "standard" 12-bit palette!!
And yes, I am slightly interested in the palette... thanks!

Don't read what follows if you're not interested in this topic! You have been warned!
-----
I'm halfway there. Using GIMP, I split the palette image above into the Red, Green and Blue Channels. each contained 16 colours as expected (well, actually there were 17), which I used to generate a palette.
I took the image I wanted as my wallpaper and split that into its R, G, and B channels. I then applied the 16 colour palette to each of these channels then recombined them.
The resulting image, although still in 24bpp colour, now only uses colours from the 12bpp palette!
Unfortunately, I've now hit a snag... I want to reduce it down to 256 colours to make the filesize even smaller. But every method I've tried replaces the colours with ones that aren't on the 12bpp palette.
So if there are any graphics-editing-gurus out there, please tell me what program / plug-in will do the job of "reducing to 256 only using colours alreading existing in the image".
This doesn't seem to be the same as "Using Exact Colours" that some programs offer, because they still seem the draw from the 24bpp palette. If I'm wrong, er, correct me.
Thanks

You can find a free plug-in for Photoshop that will reduce the colour depth of your images to 12-bit (using the correct RGB values 0,17,34,51,68,...255) at http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/
