I've tried for a couple of months now to use the EasyGPRS (v2.18 and several other versions) with my Samsung SGH-E715 phone it just doesn't seem to work. The status is always "offline" no matter what I try, I've used Infrared as well as USB cable both on Win XP Pro as well as Win98 2nd ed. computers. I've also tried a gazillion tips that I found on the web.
Has anyone got their E715 (forget other models) to talk to their computer ?. Right mow I'd love to hear from anyone who has accomplished this over Infrared. The problem I'm having is that my computer is not even recognizing the presence of the phone, the same setup works great with a Nokia 3360. With the Nokia when I activate Infrared on it and bring it close to the Infrared port of my computer it is auto detected but with Samsung nothing seems to happen. I do however see the Infrared arrows on the Samsung change from from "both arrows falshing" to the "arrows flashing alternatively". Looks like the Samsung sees the computer's infrared.
Another point to note is that I've been able to use the same phone as an infrared modem for my Dell Axim pocket pc and surf the web (albeit slow) !
Yet another point to note is that when I activate Infrared on the Nokia I can see that it's Infrared LED keeps flashing, but with the E715 on activating Infrared the LED flashes once and then turns off completely. (Yes, I can see infrared, well actually I use my camcorder to see the infrared. If you did not know this already, all camcorders are sensitive to the Infrared spectrum of light and you can actually see it in the LCD viewfinder.)
In all, I have kind of established that there is nothing wrong with my computer, its infrared and the samsung E715 infrared. I'm guessing I'm missing some something about the EasyGPRS software that is critical. As for the software I'm using the irda port from the setup menu and tried all possible speeds.
If you have successfully used EasyGPRS software with E715 over infrared I'd love to hear from you. I'm begining to think that this combination just doesn't work period.

Do you see this if the ir connected to your pc sees your E715's ir?
Check your ir settings in the windows device manager thing:
Minimum turn time = 1.0 mS
Speed = 4000000
IRtranceiver type = SigmaTel 4012

I see that icon on the tray with a Nokia 3360, Dell Axim and all other IR capable devices except for the E715. Nothing happens on my computer when I bring the E715 (with infrared activated) near the IR receiver.
The funny thing is that the E715 works great when used as an infrared modem for my Dell Axim.

I just installed the EasyGPRS 2.1.8 and it took some figuring out (I have the Samsung Serial cable) but you don't need to use the wizard program to configure a modem, just launch GPRS and it automatically syncs up...it took a bit before I gave up on the wizard and figured out I didn't need it.

Sounds to me like there is something proprietary about the Samsung cable that makes it to work.
I have not heard of anyone who has gotten the software to work using IR.
