i had the same probelm
it took me 3 hours to work out but it seems to be sorted now
right here goes
1. uninstall LG and any other mobile programs you have on your pc
2. uninstall the lg drivers
3. reboot pc (make sure the phone is not plugged in)
4. install the latest lg programs from lg

B. http://gb.lgservice.com/jsp/common/download.jsp?DOC_ID=ECSWL000012818& FILE_NAME=ECSWL000012818-b1-a2.zip&ORIGINAL_NAME_b1_a1=LGPCSync.zip&FI LE_GUBUN=B
C. http://gb.lgservice.com/jsp/common/download.jsp?DOC_ID=ECSWL000012818& FILE_NAME=ECSWL000012818-b1-a3.zip&ORIGINAL_NAME_b1_a1=U8110_BundleCD- v1.02-patch.zip&FILE_GUBUN=B
5. reboot pc
6. connect phone through USB
7. install all the drivers from the original disk (LG) there should be 4 drivers
8. reboot pc
9. open phone manager (contents folder)
10. then in the following order transfer tab, set com ports..... use one arround 20 ish
11. open lg desktop and do the same (set ports to what ever u used ie 20 )
12 open sinc manager from the task bar (right click) configure, sinc settings all to Outlook, communication settings to USB and ALWAYS
13 reboot
there now it should work ..... Remember make sure you phone is left on the Bootscreen (ie the one that comes up when you turn it on)
there it worked for me hope it does for you

http://www.addringtones.com/
right click on a ringtone u like download it to any file ie c:/music
then open your phone manager and copy it from that file to the phone sound folder
ohh by the way NEVER USE THE SINC manager to connect the handset always use LG Phone Manager and click the first icon on the top left to connect ie:- CONNECT

You don't have to reinstall the softwares!
1. Simple launch Phone Manager (in any order, either before or after LG Desktop)
2. Select the "Contents" Icon (its the big Icon on the Left.
3. Select the "Transfer" Menu at the top
4. Choose "Set COM Port"
5. Select your connection type "IrDA / USB"
6. The comport number should appear with a *.
7. You can now click on the Connect Icon

I read that the above procedure should work with the U8120, but no joy here, yet: I've uninstalled the CD software, downloaded and installed the flies suggested ... but the process seems to hang.
I've got both the COM port set to the (preselected) 6, in both apps, but there's no * by any port.
Any suggestions (other than returning the 'phone) would be much appreciated.
WinXP Home, SP1.
