A while back I asked if people were having problems with dropped calls using v600 on cingular. Turns out the way the phone is programmed doesn't work on the cingular network. when your call gets transferred from tower to tower, the phone doesn't know how to do this and you lose your call.
Cingular set up an 800 number (800) 201-6235.
Here's the part that sucks. You get a loaner v400 phone until the v600's are ready to go (which isn't until mid-September, and who really believes this). They are including a free corded headset and extra battery, which is little comfort to those of us that use the bluetooth headsets. Motorola covers all shipping costs.
For those of us that paid extra for the bluetooth, I guess motorola is screwing us in the meantime? I'm sure as soon as they send us the v600's, the v710's will be out on the market. Hence, we paid all that extra money for a v600 and can't even use its capabilities.
Please post your experience with this recall process.

Hi,
Thank you for the information. I am the Motorola V600 user with Cingular service. However, I didn't hear anything about this. Could you please inform me if this is only happen on your place or all the US. Is the recall process for nation wide or just locally? Thanks!

Spoke with CSR "Maria" with Cingular today (8/5/04)…she noted that the problem was with the earliest v600 models produced. To check your models ID enter *#06# [send]…a 15 digit ID will display. Maria noted that the problem was limited to approximately 5 % of the first v600 production run. I.e. If your phones ending digits are 001…etc. you may have a problem, whereas the more recent models are defect free. She mentioned that Motorola requested Cingular assist with requests for all models to assuage customer concerns. As for the v710…they don't have a scheduled release date, as Motorola likely plans to make sure there are no functional issues with that model before release.

My phone is less than one month old and the serial number does not end in 001 and I'm still experiencing this problem.
The cingular people told me that I would receive equal value for my phone. But seriously, when this phone gets replaced in October and the Razor V3 phone is on the market, will having a v600 be equal value?
That's like telling me in 1990, "you need to buy this IBM 286 computer for $4,000 now, but we're going to send it to you in 2004." I spent extra money to get the v600 features (bluetooth) and now I won't be able to use it for months.
Does this make sense to anyone else?

So, let me get this straight... They have a problem with the V600 dropping calls. The answer is to call the number and they will send you a V400 without having to return the V600.
Then, sometime in September, when the V600 are fixed, they will send you a new V600, and you return the defective V600, and the loaner V400?

Yep...its official....I spoke to 2 Cingular reps and they have "recalled" the V600's ...even tho they dont want to call it a "recall"..There is even a seperate phone no. 1-800-201-6235 to deal with this issue. What I was told was ....that the first 3-5% of the V600's manufactured and distributed are having RF issues with Cingulars network and dropping calls frequently...it is not clear if any other carriers are having this problem..Cingular is replacing the bad phones with V400's temporarily until the problem with the software on the bad V600's is resolved. Also they are pitching this new model V550I not released yet but over the V600.I was told by a reliable(seemed to know what he was talking about)rep that you would know if you had a defective phone the first week you had it.If you've had a phone longer than that with no dropped calls, chances are you are in the clear AND DO NOT HAVE 1 of the first phones affected..Mine appears to be OK..I'm smiling but not thrilled...Wise

Thanks to these postings, I just called tonight, Thurday, Aug. 12 at 10:00, and got the same response. They will be overnighting me a V400 phone Friday that should get here on Tuesday I have to return my v600 phone after I activate the loaner v400..I have 14 days to do so or there will be a $200+ charge.
All my phone entries are not saved to the sim, b/c the ringtone features are not available to the ones stored there. so they will all have to be reentered UGH
They said that I should be getting a V600 sometime in Sept. And at that time, I will be able to keep the battery, charger and ear bud from the V400 as a complementary "thank you for you trouble" gift.......And of course at that time, my bluetooth headset will be useful again....
If you are having trouble with your V600 and Cingular...I would call right away. I don't understand why they just sold me this phone a month ago, knowing that this issue existed. What a way to do business.

The letter you receive with the V400 replacement states you may keep the "headset" for the inconvenience. There is no reference to being able to keep the battery or the charger. I'm curious to see if indeed we can keep the battery & charger as well.
They stated they would overnight a V400 to me and indeed it arrived the next day with all the instructions on how to send the V600 back to them.

I just talked to Cingular AGAIN today. Every time I have called, they did not have a clue as to what was going to happen. This time customer service tells me that the phone they are working on sending out is a V551. They said it has all the same features +video capturing. He said according to the notes they have that this should occur in October.....WAITING VERY IMPATIENTLY Here are the details I have found so far:
Motorola V551 announced
The Motorola V551 is a new handset from Motorola that sports EDGE and a thin case. It’s also a quad-band phone so it will be available in North America, Europe and Asia. Other notables are:
176 x 220 color display with 65K colors
MP3 ringtones
Speakerphone
Bluetooth
This phone is an update to the V500. Look for the Motorola V551 starting in Q4 2004. It will be marketed as the V555 in Europe and Asia.
