i believe you mean *#8999*8378#. this is the code to get into the factory setup, not *#8999*3878#
| osaru wrote: | hi guys,
im also looking to update my firmware... mainly seeing as orange always insist on wrecking good phones with substandard software...
the apparently standard samsung "problem" with not being able to turn off the camera sound is really getting to me now, and its only been 3 days since i got the thing!
ill be messing around a lot and will post up some results if i get em. |
when you use the code above (*#8999*8378#) you get in the test mode (make sure you set the text language of your mobile to english. some menus are blocked in other languages.) in the menu go to:
H/W test, Audio settings, Rx path, melody vol, normal and set the first number to 0 (zero). Press save once and press the red telephone button untill you reach your normal screen, i believe you have to press it 6 times or something. Use the buttons on the side of the phone to put your key volume as low as possible. once you've put the key volume as low as possible the camera sound should be gone. it works for my e800!
| slob wrote: | I have seen you postings about flashing the E800. I want to be able to upload my pics etc. using the Cell Phone Manager suite, works fine for E700 but won't read diddly squat for the E800.
Any ideas or advice...also what can I expect from using the downloader?
Haven't got a clue about phones... |
i use the samsung PIMS & File Manager (from samsung.com). works perfect for me.

It sounds like the phone is blocked by the service provider. Call your service provide to find out. If it is blocked, that means someone had reported it lost or stolen.

If it was an IMEI blockng problem it usually says "Limited Service" I would say your problem is hardware or a weak signal problem.
Go to somewhere the signal is good and see if this helps. Another phone on the same network would be good to check this. (It could be that the antenna near you is down.)
If it does not help, then it is a hardware fault and this usually means a trip to the handy Mobile Phone Shop to get it repaired.
You could try flashing but I can't see it doing any good to be honest.

Thanks for that, I think you are right i've tried nearly eveything that is possible for me to do. I did take it to a Mobile Phone Shop and was told it needed a new signal chip, does that sound about right (£25). What do you think. I thought it would have been a specialists job, have you seen how tiny the components are.

Sounds about right for a mobile phone shop.
You could always find out where they get there work done and go straight to them.
But it is a specialist job, as you say the components are small and no normal soldering iron is gonna do this job.
