I purchased a third-party usb data cable for my samsung sgh-e105, but I ordered the cable sans software to save money.
I've tried several programs, some even designed for my model specifically, but i can't seem to get it working.
is it possible that this cable is so non-standard that it just won't work with other software?
Easy GPRS just says "Offline" down at the bottom constantly, and won't download anything from the phone

Does your usb driver emulates a Com Port if so do you know which one and have you change your settings in EasyGPRS to that com port and with a speed of 115200?

yes, it is emulating on com3, easygprs is set to com3, 115200 bps, but still won't connect. does the make of the cable have anything to do with which driver it should use? if you like, i can provide a link to the crappy place i got it from, but the cable has no model number...

is makes the same "doink" sound as when i plug it in to charge, even if the cable isn't plugged in to the computer
i even opened up the box thingie in the middle of the cable and found the chip number (PL-2303HX), downloaded the appropriate driver directly from the Prolific website, and it still doesn't work

Ive been told if the phone makes the beep noise when you plug the cable in that it means the cable is rooted.
Thats what happened to mine & I have just sent it back to be replaced.
I would be interested in the link you mentioned. Wondering if you bought
yours at the same place I did.
that's the same driver i gor from Prolific.
sorry i forgot about the link, I got mine from cell-phone-accessories.com
it was like 12.95 US for the cable, but no software provided, and shipping brought it up to like 18 bucks anyhow.
so is this "rooted" bad? if so, what exactly is wrong with the cable? anything I might be able to fix?
