This is quite a common problem, and seems more likely to occur on Microsoft 2003 edition software.
Install Phone Tools again, and when the error pops up don't continue. Ctrl-Alt-Del and end 'setup.exe' for the install. This way Phone Tools doesn't delete installed files and registry entries, thereby leaving a fully working program.
p.s. I highly recommend installing the 2.21b update (get from MPT website) as this will provide better and more extensive phone support. Also, make sure to use the live-update feature to update to 2.21f.

or you could try the correct solution:
A) Uninstall Outlook 2003
B) Install Motorola Phone Tools
C) Reinstall Outlook 2003
This will get around that error. good luck

Hi All,
playing around with my Bluetooth drivers I got the computer to see the phone. I can transfer files and use it as a dialer ... but the main thing I want to do is Sync with outlook !!!
I'm using the latest version of Mobile PhoneTools and when I try to discover the device the program crashes.
This is the error I get when it crashes:
AppName: mphonetools.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.0 ModName: btwizard.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 000028b7
any advice ? fixes ? ideas ?
thanks in advance.

I had the same problem for a day until I foud the following.
Check out http://commerce.motorola.com/consumer/QWhtml/faq.html regarding using Phone Tools with non-Motorola USB adapter.
The FAQ at the bottom says:
To resolve this issue:
Start by detecting the device through the BlueTooth neighborhood or 'My Bluetooth Places'.
You need to make your phone discoverable by going through the phones menu, then selecting Settings,Connection, Bluetooth Link, Setup, you will then see Find Me highlighted on the menu. Leave this here.
Go to My Bluetooth Places, click Select on the phone to make it discoverable for 60 seconds. Click View Devices in Range from the My Bluetooth Places window.
Devices in range will show up and you should see a Motorola V600 phone. Right-click the V600 and left-click Pair Device. It will prompt you to enter a PIN code to ensure a secure connection, enter a code you would like to use.
Your phone will now ask you if you would like to pair with the computer, select Yes, then Enter the PIN code you entered on your computer in step 3
Your device is now paired.
From here, go ahead and Launch mobile PhoneTools and make a new profile.
If the Setup wizard appears, Cancel out.
Mobile PhoneTools will launch with a generic looking skin.
Press the F6 key to enter the manual setup, click the Communication tab, then click the Change Modem button.
A device detection should occur which will identify your phone and provide a Next button. Click Next.
A configuration completion window should appear stating that it has setup your phone, with a Bluetooth connection. Click Finish then click OK on the Setup window.
Mobile PhoneTools should now look like your phone.

Did you install 1.23 before 2.16?
