I can synchronize calendar files, back up the phone, and upload pictures to my T-mobile 6800 but when I use pc suite to install apps I see the .jar file on the left and on the right under "my phone" I see no entry. The refresh and delete (selected application) are grayed out, the view and select a phone are selectable. If I choose select a phone I see Name, type and connection but the entries are ghosted and clicking on them does not enable the ok button to work. The phone IS connected via Irda when I attempt this.
Anyone else having an issue with Nokia 6800 and application upload?

You need also a jad-file to install games and apps. This file contains important installation informations and without it, it's not possible to install the jar-file.
If you don't have the jad-file, use Google to find a tool called "jadgen" which can generate the needed jad-file.

in the directory that contains the .jar file there is a "corresponding" .jad file. I'd downloaded both from http://www.microdevnet.com . The files are Swirc.jad and Swirc.jar. Do I need to do something special to these files before attempting to upload them to the 6800?

Normally nothing.
Just install it with the Application Installer by choosing the jad-file to be installed.

the only thing that is showing up in the left side (computer) to install is the .jar file. Should the .jar file show instead? Even after rebuilding with Jadgen (newly formatted from the .jar file the .jad file doesn't show up. In fact it shows as an unidentified file (misc windows file) in te file explorer.

It's a long time, since I've used the Application Installer of the "normal" PC Suite, but what you did decripe doesn't seems to be the Application Installer.
