Hi Guys,
I have got a T610 from ebay. I live in a small town in US where GSM 1900 service is provided by Corr Wireless. After getting my T610 I immediately noticed the very poor reception of the phone. So I updated the firmware of the phone with some new versions (R4C003 & R6C005) but I am still having the reception problems. I cannot make a call or receive a call from my home or the office even when phone is displaying 2-3 bars on the signal meter. Though I have no problems at all with my Nokia 3650 and Mitsubishi G310 phones being used on same locations. Let me explain this a bit: first I get 2 or 3 bars then I dial a number, as soon I finish dialing the number those signal bars disappear from the screen and then my phone quit dialing the number and take me back to list of recently dialed numbers. Though I can dial a number successfully when I am close to a tower and I am getting full strength signal. Same thing happens when I dial my T610 number from my land line phone, as soon as I dial to my T610, signal bars disappear from T610 screen and my call is forwarded to voice mail.
Now my concern is that, is this normal for T610 to behave like this (because I have read that T610 has poor RF reception problems) or you think antenna on my T610 is damaged? I would appreciate your input.
And do you think that I would benefit if I flash my phone with latest US version of GDFS?
Thanks guys.

u said when u dial, ur reception suddenly goes out of signal, my analyse is, ur battery is not working properly, try changing battery, dun buy one, juz test one with ur frens, if it did not work, definately is ur internal antena dude. hope tat helps

Well I also thought the same thing and I try to make the call after fully charging the battery and also while phone is connected to wall charger. But I didn't notice any difference. Now I have the phone for 4 days and I have been able to make only 4 or 5 calls from T610 so far.
So do folks think my phone is broke and I have been ripped of by the guy who sold me the phone............ or is there any fix for this problem.....
Thanks.

Hi,
| Quote: | Generally the SonyEricsssons are notorious for the Bad Reception. I'd even used a T610 it was a good phone while using it for Leisure,
examples -
listening to songs while moving,
Taking Pictures on the highest dimension (320x240)
Editing them,
Creating tones via MusicDJ software,
Transferring pics after they are snapped, & Much Much More.
This was all while using a T610. But i'd noticed that there was no reception while at home, just sitting at the Varendah, i couldn't even try dialling it to my land phone at home. So this claims that the phone has a bad transmitting antenna. Ok..!
To double check this, i tried using my T300, it worked and i never came across such incident while i was using this phone. Indeed the T300 was a little older release. But it was astonishing to see that the phone was having a good transmitting antenna. It was never inconvenient using it.
I even used a motorola t720, Nokia 3310, Nokia 8210 they never resulted such. The antenna of the SonyEricsson T610 is quite a problem creator. And mostly i'm located at a high coverage area, Colombo. So this means all what i mentioned before. |
| Quote: | 1. The phone could be replaced with a better & newer antenna.
2. Never try installing Reception Boosters, or in other words Antenna Boosters.
3. Try Contacting the Service Provider & find out the comments about the reception with this unit. |
Bye,

Thanks for your reply. But has anyone tried replacing the internal antenna on a T610 and did it make a difference?
Thanks again.

Hi,
If you purchased a brand new phone, then wait for some others responces too,
But if you'd purchased a second hand one then you better try replacing one because those sensitive hardware could get wasted.
Bye,
