Hi everyone.
here is a problem that I am hoping someone could help me solve.
I am using a Nokia 6800 with PC Suite 6.2.18 and IRDA connection. Also service provider is ATT (not that it helps )
Everything in the PC Suite works fine...I can use the transfer file function, sync and all the other functions just fine EXCEPT application installer
I downloaded a few games off the internet (BOTH jar and jad files) and try installing via the Application Installer.
But the "Install" Button is greyed out. I can see the files (JAR files) along with a description but when I highlight them ..... the arrow button for install is greyed out.
As a last option I even tried to create a new JAD file using JADGEN, but that dosent work either.
The damn trnasfer (install) button remains greyed out.
Note: Both the JAR and JAD files are in the same folder as I read that in some other post.
ANY help would be appreciated. Feel free to email directly too at -edited-.
Thanks.

I agree...... if you closely look at the screen for the application installer......when trying to install.....it says that
"The connected phone is not supported"
I think this is a nokia problem.
thanks for the suggestion for contacting Nokia. I will be calling Nokia first thing Monday and open a ticket.
So the bottom line is as of now.....the Application Installer does not support the Nokia 6800.
If anybody is able to use it with the 6800 please post.

Connected via Irda, I can synchronize calendar files, back up the phone, and upload pictures to my T-mobile 6800 but when I use pc suite app installer I see the .jar file on the left and on the right under "my phone" I see no entry. The refresh and delete (selected application) are grayed out, the view and select a phone are selectable. If I choose select a phone I see Name, type and connection but the entries are ghosted and clicking on them does not enable the ok button to work.
I agree...... if you closely look at the screen for the application installer......when trying to install.....it says that
"The connected phone is not supported"
I've never seen the above message, when does it come up for you?

Just called Nokia for an update on my "ticket" (they don't issue ticket #'s). It seems it was an oversight that application upload is NOT supported on the 6800 with ANY type of connection (not just an Irda issue). Supposedly it IS supported on the other 68k series (6820 6810 etc). Good news is that support for the 6800 is coming in a new release of pc suite, up to you if you want to wait for the version of pc suite that will work with the phone, I'm on the fence as to my next steps. If I wait too much longer I lose my ability for money back, the 3 week release schedule might even put me out of the "choose another phone" time frame with letstalk.com.
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!!

Did they say when the new PC suite will be released?
Also the message "this phone is not supported" is seem in the bottom of the status bar (lower left hand corner) of the application installer screen.
Pops up only for a few seconds....keep your eyes peeled on the lower left hand corner.

Yes i opened a case....but the damn lady wouldnt understand what I was trying to say. So I wrote to support and look at the horseass reply I got from them.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for e-mailing Nokia's Contact Center.
We are sorry to learn about the games difficulty you are experiencing using PC Suite's Application Installer, and are happy to assist you.
Nokia Application Installer allows you to install Java™ applications from your PC (personal computer) or laptop computer to your phone. The applications can be any kind of J2ME™ (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) applications
Important: Nokia Application Installer requires the activation of the "Applications" menu in your phone. If the "Applications" menu is not visible, then Java™ application support is not available in your area.
Be aware that Nokia Application Installer uses digital signatures and certificates during software installation. Do not install an application if Nokia Application Installer displays a security warning about the software you are trying to install.
Java™ applications consist of two files and can be identified by the .jad and .jar file extensions. When you download Java™ applications to your PC for use with your phone, make sure you save both files to the same location. If Nokia Application Installer cannot find the .jar file, a dialog box opens and prompts you for the location of the file.
To use Nokia PC Suite Application Installer with your Nokia 6820 phone please follow these steps:
There are two ways to open Nokia PC Suite applications:
1. From the Start menu: click the Start button, point to Programs and Nokia PC Suite, and then click the application you want.
2. From Nokia Phone Browser: select Nokia Phone Browser in Windows Explorer tree view and double-click the icon of the application you want to open in the Folder view.
Sir, it was a pleasure assisting you. We hope that this information will be helpful. If you have any additional questions please contact us. To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.
You may also choose to call our Technical Support Group. We are open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST (excluding Holidays). Our toll free number is 1-888-NOKIA-2U (1-888-665-4228)
Thank you for choosing Nokia for your mobile needs.

idiots even got my phone model wrong (they wrote about a 6820) and treated the email as a novice user. Have written to them again. Lets see what comes up.
