I used to use the contents bank which came with the cd on my old computer (running windows ME) via. a serial port.

i just tried installing it on my new computer (running XP) and it wouldn't connect. So i went to the LG support website, and downloaded the latest version of the program, tried to connect again, and it tells me

'Failed to connect to mobile handset. Please check the COM port and connect in idle screen'

i'm connected to com port 1, since i only have 2 ports and my monitor is connected to the other. But on the set com tab, com 1 isn't available, it starts at com 3.

When i reboot my pc, it tries to install the com port, but then wont pick up any drivers for it. In device manager, the phone comes up under port 4, but tells me

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
on trouble shooter theres only 1 question, and it askes if manually configuring it helps, but i dont know how to lol.

anybody got any ideas on how i can get this thing working, other than breaking out the old pc and switching all the wires across every time i want to add a ringtone to my phone? lol

It sounds to me like you're using the LG Phone Manager (wich is for usb ir device) and NOT the content bank... Becoz this message: 'Failed to connect to mobile handset. Please check the COM port and connect in idle screen' comes from phone manager I believe, and also the com port 3 and up you say are same as in phone manager. Make sure it is Contents Bank you're trying to use...

Then I guess it will work for you...

Or maybe in setting you have set it to ir port instead of serial port?

sorry bout lack of responce

its picking up the serial as a printer, and i was using the wrong program first, but i got the same thing on contents back..

it will start to connect, but only got about a 1/4 up, then just stop.

i tried configuring the serial port, but i could only configure as either a printer or a digi cam, which didnt work

hopefully its just my pc as im planning on selling the fone to a friend, and used the fact that you can take the pictures off onto a pc as a selling point
