I downloaded the bitpim software and installed it on my laptop. I finally got it figured out how to upload ringtones using a sample file. After I reset the phone my computer wouldn't recognize it again so I had to reboot my computer. After I rebooted, bitpim would not open. When I looked in the task manager it said it was running but I could not access it in any way.

I thought I would try installing it on my desktop so went through the whole process of installing it and the drivers, etc. and I uploaded one of my own files using the sample gcd file as a template. It worked fine to upload but again when I reset my phone the computer wouldn't recognize it. I haven't rebooted my computer yet but so far it is acting the same as my laptop and suspect that bitpim will also be useless on there. I tried uninstalling bitpim and drivers and reinstalling them but with no success.

Is anyone familiar with this problem? Does it have anything to do with deleting the amsreg? The phone itself works fine and I haven't lost any files.

Can someone please send me screen shots of a successful upload to the Screen saver, Ringers and games directory. As I am not a programmer I need to see how the file names look in order to make my uploads successful. I think I've tried everything but I can not see the ring tones or games when I restart my phone. As an example, for games is the file names under cnts1 only _jad and _jar or are they pacman_jad and Pacman_jar or Pacman_.jad and Pacman_.jar. I do erase the AmsRegistry each time. I am about 90% there and need a little help. Thanks in advance. Email me saiko@rogers.com

It took a little while to get to work, but the BitPim trick also works with my Samsung SPH-A740 camera phone. I've only tried ringers, but it's working. I just used the .gcd files from other downloaded ringers I had and edited them slightly to change the name and have the correct filesize. I never even had to use GCDCreator. Awesome post!

I have obtained PCLink2003 English), and it appears to be trying to connect, but fails to recognize the phone.

It is simply a contact editor. You cannot do much technical with the phone, including flash the BIOS if the phone has this capability.

easyGPRS is much the same; DataPilot also is very limited in its scope.

I am looking for complete software (unlock, flash, reset security codes, download ringtones and wallpaper, screensavers, etc). So far nothing.

Bell sells their own proprietary software: Dashboard (email, agenda/address book etc), and PhoneSync - contact editor, sync with MS Outlook (...preserve me!)

However, you can write directly to the address book in the phone. I think it was around $80 for the package (sw+cable).

All the sw above is brain-dead if it can't control the phone software.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I FINALLY got connected to my phone! You are a saint, a gentleman, and a scholar! And I am one happy chick! And like you said the only thing I could access was the phone book, but considering I had over 300 contacts, I am just happy as a clam that I could protect them.
Thanks again,
A previously frustrated Mom of 3!

I have the SPH-A660 phone. I've tried the Bitpim, but I cannot connect to the phone using the file manager. I purchased a USB cable off the internet and it had its own drivers. Should I use a different driver? The site said I could use EasyGPRS, but I can't download it anywhere. Does anyone have the PClink software or anything that can work with this phone?

Go get DataPilot software(http://www.datapilot.com/products.htm ). It worked the very first time with the drivers that came with the cable I purchased off eBay.
It works!
