I seem to be having problems assigning different ringtones to different phonebook entries. In my old Nokia, it was easy, I just used to put people into different caller groups and assign the ringtone. However, for love nor money can I see in the inadequate owners manual how to do this on the V600. I even went into each individual phonebook entry to assign a ringtone which APPEARED to work, however, it now uses that ringtone both for calls AND text messages.

It must be dizzy me that's doing something wrong, can you help at all...?

Oooh, and can you only assign different lights to the various volumes of ringtones (ie: vibrate/loud/soft etc) or can you assign them to people?

Thanks

Jane

Go to one of your phone entries and click on edit. then go to ringer ID. You should be able to select your ringtone.

I believe the lights are only one setting in general. Not sure if its possible to assign to different contacts.

Thanks a lot for the reply - however, this is what I've already done.... and doing it seems to over-ride whatever tone I've put in for text messages. This means I get the same (long drawn out!) ringtone for messages that I also get for people ringing me....? Could this be a fault with my phone or has anyone else had the same problem...?

Thanks again... x

I have tested with my V600 and it works. I am able to select a ringtone of a specific caller and another ringtone with other callers. Upon testing it, I was able to hear those ringtones assigned.

You may need to be in loud mode to do this and not silent mode. Also, you must click done with finish with editing the ringtone to specific caller otherwise it will be saved completely.

I really am grateful for your reply, but just to say that this is what I did, and you're right, it did work, however, I still have the same problem that if I allocate, say, "moonlit haze" as a ringtone, it will also use that tone for when messages are recieved. So although you can tell who is trying to reach you, you can't tell whether it's a call or a text message. And obviously, you don't want the full length of a long ringtone for a text message alert.

I'm aware I'm being a pest, but I'm really grateful for your thoughts.

Thanks again

Beside changing ringtone for individual callers, you can also change ringtone for text message, voicemail as well. Perhaps the ringtone for text message is the same as the callers. Go to settings, ring styles, loud detail, text msgs. Check to see if it is the same.

It isn't the same - text messages and ringtones have been set up as different tones, however, this is not the way it's happening. I've kinda done all the obvious things, and I'm now beginning to think it may be a fault on this particular handset.

In addition to the above, it doesn't always recognise people from my phone book - therefore only showing a number when they call, rather than their name.

I'm thinking I should contact Motorola!

Thanks again for all your help, you're a good 'un!
