I have just been given a Motorola V500 from someone that lost their phone, claimed on their insurance and then found the old phone down the side of their cooker.

The phone is locked atm, is it possible to get this unlocked in any way without it affexting his replacement phone etc.

Many thanks in advance, a neeeewwwbeeee icon_smile.gif

I believe the phone is property of the Insurance Company now.... so is BARRED from all networks. It's not legally possible to get it back onto the Network... this is something for the Insurance Company as they own the phone...

They (i believe) barr the IMEI Number...

Correct. The phone is "Banned" think of it like playing an online game and cheating - well u get caught and most servers will not allow you to play again beacuse u cheated.

As for your buds phone being banned - you can check out other companies and see if they use the same data base as original company the phone was from if they do your stuck if not get the phone unlocked and use it with another company.

example :

i lost my phone - got a new one - gave the old one to a friend - tmobile who i have only shares a database with cingular - my friend has at&t - he got the phone unlocked and put his sim in - bling bling he got a new phone.

example 2 :

lost my phone - got a new one - gave the old one to a friend - tmobile who i have only shares a database with cingular - my bud has cingular - puts his sim in - DOH! the data base says NO ur phone is STOLEN and BANNED ( it dosent really say that im just saying it ) and no go!

good luck finding out who has whos data base a few years ago i think a US bill passed stating that all major companies need to share a data base. so if your in the US and that act went green your SOL.

Hey tell me how you unlocked it. And how did you get it to work if it's banned? Was the phone originally from tmobile? And did you change the IMEI?

Once I found a T720 from Roggers and I didnt have a roggers sim card. So I put a sim card from my friends phone and turned it on. I only kept it on for like 3 mins and gave the sim card back to him. After like 15 mins, roggers called him and asked him why was his sim being used in a stolen phone. So I had to return the T720.
