I have no connectivity when using IrDA in XP SP2.
When i activate infra on the phone and put the phone near my JetEye (connected to com1) IRDA connector XP recognizes Samsung P510 phone, after that it starts to install Standard IrDA link over modem, this is where the troubles begin. It starts to install the modem but the installition is very slow, it completes the installation only after i move my phone out of range, then xp says New Hardware installed succesfully.
When i start EasyGPRS 2.1.8 and have the connection selected to IRDA and the phone is, of course, near the irda transmitter. EasyGPRS goes from OFFLINE to NOTHING and starts to connect with the phone, after this it just hangs and nothing happens although the bar moves on... After i move the phone away from the irda transmitter i get connection activity closed. Also when i go to device manager -> Standard IRDA over modem link Device Manager hangs, i only get to the properties page after i remove the phone near the irda transmitter.
Has anyone else got IRDA working in XP SP2?

Are the settings in the EasyGPRS setup (Menu: File>Setup) set to Com 1 or Irda? If you choose IrDa as port change the speed to maximum. Or just leave the speed the same.

The setting is on IrDA and the speed was 115200, same setting is on the COM PORT and JetEye connector, i've also tried slower speeds .. it simply wont work, i've tried on a different computer using sp1 and it works just fine.. dunno if it's an SP2 trouble, i found a post on a german samsung techtalk forum and someone else couldnt get irda working either.. =( oh well guess i have to get a datacable, which cable should i get for my phone (cable number)

IrDa works fine with SP2 over here... The cable you should get is the PCB180LBE the same one the C100 uses.

Do you have the Eagle Eye JETPC irda device? I've tried with 3 different computers now, 2 amd pc's and one Intel p4 all with XP SP2 and the troubles begin when IRDA detects standard IR link over modem, it wont install the drivers unless i remove the phone and the IRDA link is disconnected, after that i get device succesfully installed. When i start up EasyGPRS and put the settings to IRDA and 115200 the software goes from OFFLINE to NOTHING and begins to synchronize data between the phone and pc.. after that it just hangs there and the software goes to NOT RESPONDING, if i remove the phone from near the irda transmitter i get Connection lost error.. Dunno if the JETEYE adapter is crap, well since i've tried with 3 computers with SP2 i think it's an SP2 problem

Hi pikkumies,
I have EXACTLY the same problem with my P510 (but using an MA-620 IRDA-USB device). The syptoms you gave are precisely what happened to me. I too have SP2 and wondered whether this was the problem.
However, when I try with my Sony Ericson I have no problems at all. Also XP reports "Nearby computer Z600 is available" rather than a "Samsung P510 is in range".
Anyone out there had similar problems and actually fixed the problem ?

Yes, I have this problem, too. I've tried C100 over IrDA with EasyGPRS 2.1.8 and Samsung Phone Manager, but nothing, the apps are freezing until I disconnect the C100. Although I'm able to send files from and to my laptop (in where the internal infraport are) with a Siemens phone and the XP's standard IR-interface, but this is not enough
Here is the data log of Samsung Phone Manager:
//---------------- spm_debug.dat ---------------------

It is interesting, that the first ATZ command is received and replied by the phone, but when the SPM tried to send an AT+CGMI, a writing error occured.

Irda costs nothing - cables cost x-amount of pounds. We should be able to use irda, but unfortunately samsung's software, whoever designed it, not only didn't speak very good english, but is pretty naff at programming.
So to re-itterate, what EXACT cable do you advice us p510 owners get? IE: one that does both data and DL (whatever that is? 'download'?)
I see no settings in easyGPRS for shoving pics on ur fone, maybe that's as i've never successfully connected through xp sp2 to the device in the manner described in the easyGPRS manual.
Shame really.

I found a pretty simple solution to this problem. I've experineced excatly the same problems that were described, I even tried to conntact the samsung support, they said it should work, and if it is not there is a problem in your windows configuration. Well, technicaly, it was. All you have to do is to unistall the Win XP service pack 2 (control panel/ add remove programs), reinstal the standart modem over irda, restart the easyGprs if it is by any chance running and it should work just fine. I guess there might be an other solution to this problem and that is to instal the irda modem driver from windows XP with sp1 or lower (simply copy the file). However, I didnt really tried this, I was fed up with SP2 anyway so I dont regret getting rid of it. Its probably the easiest and cheapest way to solve this problem. Hope this helped. Enjoy
