I'm currently with AT&T, but I'm hoping to switch to Cingular by adding my wife and I to my parents' plan for $10 each (and then splitting the total cost of their plan, meaning I'll reimburse them ~$45 a month). My dad said he called a Cingular rep and he/she said it shouldn't be a problem, so we're going to a Cingular store tonight to start the process of buying phones and porting our numbers.
My folks have Motorola V400s, and I wouldn't mind going with that model. My dad mentioned that they're running a special selling them for $59.99 each with a 2-year contract. Is that a good price? What other models should I consider? I liked the V600, but I know Cingular's not selling them anymore and I think it'd be out of our price range anyway. Also like the SE T630 (I'm using a SE T306 now).
What should I know walking into the store tonight?

Now that I think about it, I wonder if they'll even give us this deal if we're just adding on to my parents' service. We'd still have to sign a contract though, right? So maybe they will. God, this stuff is confusing.

even if ur plsn is $9.99/mo theyll still give it at the same price.
you WILL have to sign up for 2 years
once youve had cellphones for awhile, itll get simpler =)

I've been with AT&T since 2000...It hasn't gotten much easier.
You were right though. We had no problem switching and I'm looking at my new V400 in front of me right now (and listening to my wife play with hers in the other room). I love it! Quite a step up from the T306 for me and the Nokia 3560 for her. After the mail-in rebate I'll have gotten them for $60 each. I don't mind a two-year contract paying half as much for an infinitely better phone and better service (my reception's twice as good on this phone...I've got full bars at home, which is new).
So can you guys give me a quick primer on how to best take advantage of Cingular and the V400? I've got a ton of polyphonic MIDI ringtones that I want to upload to the phone and of course I want to make some MP3 ringers. Want to upload some images too. Since the bill's going to my folks, however, I need to find a way to minimize my data charges. The first thing I bought for my T306 was an infrared port ($9 on eBay) which I used all the time to transfer stuff back and forth to the phone for free. I saw on Motorola's site that they have a data cable and software package that I'm interested in. Is there a B&M that sells the cable? Short of that I guess I'd have to send everything by text message at .10 apiece or put it on a web server and download it that way.

Is that $20 per phone, just for the phones used by my wife and I, or would that provide unlimited data for all four phones in the family?
And does that flat rate include email/text messages?
