I have the Nokia 6200 phone and I have windows 2000 on my pc and when plugging in the dku-5 usb cable it detects it as a USB device but then tries to install the drivers but gies me the following error "The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance". I also have added manually the dku-5 cable under "multi port serial adapters" but there is a yellow exclamation which keeps saying the drivers are not installed and when I try to install the drivers it always defaults back and says that the best driver for this device (is already installed. I went ahead and installed the drivers manually from the Nokia cd that came with the cable and then removed the dku-5 from device manager and then unplugged it and then plugged it back in and the same thing happens. Here is what Ive done so far to troubleshoot this?
1) unplugged everything and uninstalled the Nokia Suite software, and then rebooted and then installed the Nokia dku-5 cable software. I then rebooted and then plugged in the usb dku-5 cable into the computer and W2k detected that something was plugged but instead of it showing it as a Nokia Data Cable it shows as unknown device and then gives me the error listed above and the installation never finishes.
2) Ive tried assigning the drivers myself during the plug and play detection but what happens is that it searches the cd and then finds the driver located in c:\winnt\inf\usb.inf as the best driver for this device. The problem is that once the installation completes it still shows as driver not installed.
3) Ive reformatted my hard drive (not because of this issue but other issues). I went ahead and then tried the installation again and the same thing happened.
I have no idea what to do next.
Please let me know any thoughts you have. I really appreciate it.
thanks in advance
Angelo

What service pack are u using in w2k?
I'm using w2k sp3. But, i've never test it using dku-5 cable.
I think the main problem is the dku-5 driver. Try searching for the new driver for the dku-5. No need to format your hardisk.
Hope that helps

If you have read the manually of the cable accurate, you would have seen:
| Quote: | | Note: Do NOT have your Connectivity Adapter Cable connected to the computer when you install the driver. Doing so causes the driver to be installed incorrectly. |
So if you've done so, you have messed up everything, buddy
Also downoad the newest drivers from the nokia-website

I find out dat my N6610 can download the ringtone n wallpaper I edited, using Nokia PC suite.
First, Edit photo or ringtone to campatible file, using Nokia PC suite photo n ringtone converter. Save them to your PC.
Upload that file to your geocities or tripod account.
For example, my account is jie_xp, file is "fu.mid"
Then, u can download them with Nokia 6610 wap. Select GO TO LINK n type "http://geocities.com/jie_xp/fu.mid" N6610 will download that ringtone.
If u don believe, try to dwonload the ringtone dat i had edited, at http://geocities.com/jie_xp/fu.mid with your handphone.
I think this great idea will help u download game too, by upload them to internet server like geocities.
I share this idea with all of u. Try to teach the others. IR port or Data Cable is no needed. Data cable n IR Port usually cause problem. Trust me n save money with my innovative way.
I think my idea also work with any WAP model handphone. A geat news, right?
I hope to know n share my idea with other innovative PC user or H/P user. Plz e-mail me at ong_ting_jie@hotmail.com

Here's a suggestion::(tried in win xp)
1- uninstall any software you had already installed such as DKU-5 and the Nokia software for ur phone.
2-connect the cable and restart the computer.
3- follow the installation wizard
4- when you get a message that the software is not compatible with winxp just hit continue.
5- you will be asked to insert a certin Nokia CD for the file named USBVSP.SYS, you will find the file in the WINDOWSXP ::directory\system32\drivers
6- continue the installation
7- install the software of your phone.
That should solve ur problem.
Connect ur phone and if everything is well, in device manager, under com ports u will see where ur cable is connected.
Then in the cell phone icon that occurs in ur taskbar, select the the cable.
