iam am having the same problem says it cant find the port (com)
Check your control panel for any yellow triangles if you find any update the drivers - making sure that the disk from the phone is in the cd drive and then try again.

first install the whole CD, create desktop icons this will help
once installed takeout the CD
go to the purple icon named "LG Phone Manager"
when on this screen click on "view"
then select from here "Contents Manager"
then go to "Transfer"
then "Set com Port"
select the com port which u want to use, then the connection method (the connection method should be "USB")
then that should be it
exit the program
then enter it again this time going to the connection button, this i located just under the file button, and then the rest is up to you, add music, pics and other stuff,
its all good
if this is any help then PM me, thanks all,
bye

When you set the communication port use IrDA instead of USB and use the same port that is used for the usb. This worked for me.

If you plebs had any idea, install the software first.
Once software is installed, leave the cd in the drive.
Plug the phone in, allow it to find the drivers from the cd.
Drivers will automatically install via install search for drivers and obtain from cd.
Allow to finish and restart.
Your LG software will now work and allow you to connect.

OK, for what it is worth here is my solution!
I have 2 lg 8120's both unlocked. I originally only used 1 cable and 1 PC to connect both phones to the phone manager etc. No problems, not once, nothing!
After breaking the phone end, I changed my cable for my spare....I have now had 4 months of NO connection until the last few days when I did some messing around.
I have come up with this following solution and Im sticking with it as it works reliably.
WITH XP running and software installed.....and phone unconnected.
1)Remove battery completely from phone...
2) refit battery, open flip, switch on phone....
3) close flip...(do NOT switch on phones USB)
4) Plug firmly into cable....XP should "bing" twice....
5) attempt to synchronise....
6) if no success, remove and re-insert cable end...(I think the cable is slightly out of tolerance...hence not properly connecting)
7) If you can synchronise.....go to next...step
Open Phone Manager up
1) Click on LHS "contents" icon...
2) then syhnc.....(it will fail...) this is ok
3) now go to transfer and set Com port to one which is starred...(it is already highlighted BUT it seems to need "telling" which one!
4) try contents again....mine works...
after 4 months of no connecting I have now moved photos, mp3 etc.
I think 2 or 3 things are working against connection...
1) the phone's USB connection is activated from XP
2) The cable is poorly made! out of tolerance!
3) The phone manager has a software glitch...
Now if I wish to use my other phone I must cold reboot by taking out the battery...but again it will "open" up the com port. It seems to not be releasing a port to XP....rebooting seems to cause it to switch to a "default" setting acceptable..
Anyway a bit heath robinson BUT I am as happy as a Pig in ....
Eddie, let me know if your solutions work.

Anyone knows if it's possible to use Jimm ICQ client with this phone? It means that it must have the ability for the installed Java software to get out into the internet.

the idle screen is the main home screen on the phone. the simplest way to put this is your phone wallpaper screen. quit the menu and everything and then try to connect if still having problems then post it on this website hope it helps.

Yes there is a software that can run almost every IM client on LG U8120. It's Nimbuzz! search it on google since I am unable to post URLS on the post.
